Trying to get rid of an old desk
Ian and I have a medium sized wooden desk that we're trying to get rid of at the end of the month and we need some help!
We have a couple of problems.
1) We're not able to leave it behind our condo - and there's no way around that really since they'll see us when we bring it down. So we don't know where to put it or bring it. (If anyone wants it, they're welcome to it!) We'd rather not have to pay someone to remove it either.
2) We don't have any way of transporting it anywhere. Ian's step-dad borrowed a van and brought it here, but he doesn't have the van anymore and lives in Whitby. I have a car, but there's no way it will fit into my car.
Does anyone have any advice, or can help?
if you live in a condo they should have a place where you can just put it outside for someone to take, usually in the back where the garbage is located.
bonfire on the deck

They said it's how they keep the fees down. (I didn't tell him I was only subletting and am not paying any of the condo fees! lol) |

I sent them an email asking if I could post an add for an offer even though it won't be given away for a couple of weeks. I want to post the add now, but be able to get rid of it near the end of the month b/c if I post the add later it may not get taken in time, as I'm outta here on Aug 30! |

Pro tip: throw it off the balcony
Disassemble it and take the car-compatible pieces to the dump.
Disassembly is the fun part. Dump runs are the shit part.
Lisa, Dima and I had a similar problem but it was with a couch. We were moving from one condo to another and could not take it with us. We posted a really specific ad on craigslist's free section like so:

| We moved last weekend but left our couch behind because we couldn't fit it into our moving vehicle with all our other stuff. We need this out tonight because other people are moving in. This couch is big and heavy. You need a truck or large van with the seats taken out as well as 2 or 3 strong people. Sorry but I will be unable to help with the lifting. The couch is clean and we do not smoke or have pets. There is a tiny rip under one of the arms, but it really isn't noticeable at all. You can easily sew it and it will look as good as new. I have attached a picture of the rip so you can see what I mean. We were hoping to get a few bucks for this sofa, but since we urgently need this out tonight, consider it your lucky day. Please respond only if you can promise to pick it up tonight (between 6:45 and 10). We have to travel to the place to open the door for you, so it would be pretty cruel if you made us go all the way there only to decide that you are too lazy to get it. |
people love free shit. Go with craigslist and kijiji.
Usually, I just put it on the front lawn and its gone in 1-2 hours usually....but a condo is unlikely to have a front lawn...so go w/ the www sites
So we were in luck. My parents came to visit this weekend and my brother said we could take it to his house b/c the city would take care of it. Turns out his fiance wants it! So they're going to sand it and repaint it and make it into a craft station. lol
Kinda shitty they had to take it this weekend, b/c I could have used it for the rest of the month, but I'm just happy it wasn't a pain to get rid of!
Amazing!
Now I want a craft station for my scrapbooks
lol
