Confused Help me fix my scanner!

Hi everybody,

First off my computer is a Sony Vaio, windows 2000, and the scanner is a HP Scanjet 5100C.

The problem, whenever I go to use the scanner, my computer slows down and nothing works. I have to do the CTRL-ALT-Delete button from hell to "end the task." After I do that a red circle with a slash appears through the scanner on my toolbar.

How did I install it you ask? I hooked up the cables, turned on the computer. During the start it up, the computer said "new hardware found." The computer started up, then I ran the scanners cd install disk . Everything went fine.

I had the scanner hooked up to my old IBM Aptiva last year, and everything worked fine.

Help!!!!!!

Give it a good kick.

That usually helps to everything.

Try here

I noticed that Swamper has added a cool new forum for tech questions and computer stuff. Maybe we should of used it...

oh well, it sounds like a driver issue. Try the new driver and if you are still getting the same problem. Then uninstall the the software and drivers for it completely and do a complete reinstall with the new driver.

Good Luck

Payce,

Thanks for that link. But, I am still confused as ever, and the scanner is about to go through the window!
This is driving me nuts.

Ok, so I download the driver, then I unzip it. Fine, I look at my c drive, its there as a folder called sj269w2k. I open the folder, there are these: copyfiles.mst-deletefiles.exe-displaytext.exe-Epstw2k.sys-Message.txt-setup.exe-sloc.dll-vssver.scc

So, I click on setup.exe and it says 'The SETUP.EXE file is linked to missing export Kernel32.dll:VerSetConditionMask. Then I click OK, it says "C:\sj269w2k\setup.exe, A device attached to the system is not functioning."
I've downloaded the driver twice, and it says the same thing.

Ugh, I swear this is so aggravating.

What do I do now?????? Help!!!!!

I have a Plustek scnanner, its been busted for a while and when I scanned in images it shows these weird colors and overlap

I guess that's what I get for buying a cheap POS!
Anyhow, I think the time has come where I take it out of my closet and pull out the good'ol sledge hammer and do a number on it!

Cheers,

If a kick doesn't work, I hear some guy fixed his HD by putting it in his microwave, might work with a scanner.

Uninstall EVERYTHING that has to do with your scanner.

Then reinstall the software, but this time since you have the new drivers on your HDD, you can now make the installation program search for a better driver. It should this time find the new 2k driver.

2k has a tendency to make you install things correct the first time and the first time only. So just uninstall and reinstall, but make the installation program search for a better driver now.

Good Luck

I've got a Plustek aswell.. I got mine maybe 4 years ago (for alot of money), and supposedly Plustek was one of the best scanner companies around.

Now you can get a better one for 1/4 the cost. grr

Payce,

Where should I save the update I download? Does it make a difference if I save to desktop or somewhere else?
Thanks for all your help.

it wont make a difference as long as you remember where you saved it. so that when it asks you the location of the new drivers you can point it in the right direction.

Hey guys,
Me again. It still doesn't work. Cafster, you mentioned it would ask for the new drivers. But it's not doing it. Is there anyway I can "force" it to install the new driver?

Thanks,
Emil
