Ontario to allow mixed martial arts

finally...as it's been argued by many for some time that the province can put forth its own regulations, with the federal law preventing prizefighting not being enforced (and that law is being amended anyway). Quebec and Alberta have been hosting major events for 10 years, so it's nice to see Ontario getting on board.

Ontario plans to allow mixed martial arts in the province.

Minister of Consumer Services Sophia Aggelonitis announced the plans on her Twitter page Saturday.

Those close to the sport called it phenomenal news.

Were all ecstatic, said Noble Chummar, UFCs Canadian lawyer and a partner at Cassels Brock. Our efforts have paid off.

Chummar said the turning point in the battle to bring the UFC to Ontario was when the province realized how important it is to regulate the sport for the economic advantages and for the tremendous safety advantages.

Chummar said Premier Dalton McGuinty and Minister of Consumer Services Sophia Aggelonitis are obviously in touch with what people want.

finally Ontario "un-banning" something for once.. albeit due to its "economic benefits" more so than anything, i.e. we're losing money to other provinces so we want a share of the pie as well

see: Online Gambling legislation

i laughed my ass off when i read this part:

cool.. then can we have open access to alcohol at outdoor festivals instead of forced beer tents Mr. In-touch Premier?

This is for everyone who keeps bashing Toronto/Ontario:

Feel free to get the fuck out.

Some people on this forum talk so much shit about Toronto as if it's their fucking day job. If you don't like the city: LEAVE.

There is no anti rave act.

There CAN be raves, it's just super pricey to have them here...
