best beatmatching software out there?

Hi everyone,

A friend gave me some cds with some songs and dont DJ or do much music stuff, but I told him Id help him the best way I could by putting together his songs on a cd. I heard theres software out there like sound forge, djmixer, etc that pretty much helps you put music together or edit it.

The question I have is all I want to do is dump the tracks into a software, set the beats per minute to what I want each track to match at, at the most accurate bpm set. I tried one freeware softawre but it didnt work right. It would save the bpm's for each track off balance so it still sounded off, plus the loudness for each track was either load on one track, and quiet on another. Is that what they call tempo??? So mainly Im looking for a bpm match and save setup softare and an auto sound volume setter or something where I can set the volume to each track to match the same so one track doesnt sound loader than the other, etc, and save the tracks to the bpm's I set it as, so when I put her tracks together, it will make my job a lot easier, rather than the cd sounding like shoes in a dryer if you get my drift. I suppose this is the cheating way on mixing tracks, but again, I dont DJ or mess with music like you all do, so Im experimenting and doing this to help out a chick. lol

Any help would be great. I have sound forge i think on one of my computers but I see that its an advanced piece of software mainly to edit music, but I dont know if its the type that will set bpm's for each track and save it like that. *shrugs*

soundforge is for editing and wont help you at this stage you need to find dj mixing software and practice first

i started out with atomixmp3...perhaps that might be useful in understanding the basis of beatmatching..

Traktor is really the easiest software around, it can even do the beatmatching for you, the only thing you need to do is choose the tracks and move the crossfader to do a transition.

DJ'ing with Traktor is exactly the same as DJ'ing with turntables or CDJs, minus the beatmatching (and plus some other bonuses like looping, etc.). You still have to cue, EQ, level, phrase, etc, etc, etc.

You don't really have to do any of that but then you'll end up sounding like Oakenfold.

Yeah but you don't need most of that if you just want to mix a few tracks together for a CD for a friend, god damnit You can always learn more after.

Yah, I heard of this ato mix thing. I might try that. I heard though that a lot of virtual dj mixer software allows you to load your tracks up to the software, but as far as saving the tracks, doesnt seem to let you. Only record your music tracks or something.

So if the first track is track 1 on my friends cd, then track 2 will beat at the same bpm and blend off the ending beat from track 1, and so on to track 3, if this makes sense? I used Mixmeister to make an entire mix in the way that you say you want to. It's been a few years, but basically, it calculates the BPM (and you can adjust or gradually change the bpm by drawing a ramp on the screen if you desire) and you overlap the tracks visually as far as where you want them to start cross over into each other.

Beyond that, it's gonna require a little research from you (if you want to get into "phrasing" it properly and such) so it just depends on how happy you are with the mix.

Hell Im not a DJ and I could of probably put together a better track into what he just played and spun it fine.

I saw another Tiesto video too where he was playing something and the cd he was playing or record rather stopped playing and he looked up at the ceiling with his arms up rather than simply looking behind him and realizing his power on one of the amps were blown or something.

Then he walks off stage cussin in his own language and some guy threw some fanny pack at him while walking off stage. Was pretty hilarious.

Poor guy. I think hes just getting old and needs to hang up his ear phones, personally. Hes already done so much and performed so much.

Didnt he get married though???
