You should be - hell, I'm excited for you! Now, you can become one of us who have no creativity left because we're bound by the scary "music rules"!

Thanks guys. I started my Piano class last night and tomorrow I start my Theory class.

Piano went great. The teacher is awesome. We are using Yamaha pianos similar to the one below..

Funny thing is, as soon as I got hands on, I started going through all the different sound on the sound module! I also replaced the crappy school headphones with my Senn's. lol

The book we're using seems pretty easy to understand. The first day, we learned about quarter notes, half notes, bars, measures, key names, finger numbers, middle c, and some very basic music reading. We also learned correct posture and hand position. We did various excercises playing the same note, but reading it of a music sheet and following a metronome. The first tries were a trainwreck! lol The entire class was very off, but by the end of class, we were all much better and kept up.

What kept throwing me off was that I'm used to fast paced electronic music, and we were playing at 60 bpm. lol

Below is the book we're using. It's only $12 at the book store. I'll keep you guys up to date.

Man this reminds me of my first days of piano lessons as a youth, too bad I never fully gone through them.

The class sounds fun! I would totally take a college class in piano basics!

I used to play drums and would practice having the metronome at 40 bpm.And then you would do exercises where like 8 bars of metronome, 8 bars of silence, and come back right on the beat. Would do it to like 8 bars of beats, 24 bars of silence and land right on the click. Takes alot of fucking discipline.

It is always better to practice slow especially at the beginning to make sure your technique is good. I suppose the reason would only matter if you took up piano seriously as you want to be careful with injuries but this only matters if you are playing lots which I imagine you aren't nor do you want to. Just see it as a brain exercise as unless you start practicing at least 3 hours a day , you will always kinda suck. But that feeling you get when your brain is tinkering, that is the feeling you should always be striving for when learning music. Just like the gym I suppose.

I did my undergrad in piano performance so if you have any questions , please ask your teacher.

Hello world! I just got back from my Theory class. Wow, that shit is confusing as hell. We covered way too much in 4 hours. I need to learn how to read music quick if I wanna survive this class. This class is about to get interesting.
