Jacinta's Voyage - Inspired by my Daughter (EDIT: since played on ASOT and more :) )

Hey all,

EDIT: 18 July '11

It's out today, here's a short video preview of the orignal mix, Temple One remix, and Adam Fielding remix:

EDIT: 8 July '11

Armin Van Buuren played the Temple One remix on Ep516 of ASOT ( http://www.astateoftrance.com/episodes/episode-516/ ). SolarStone also had that mix as his 'Big Tune of the Week' ( http://www.solarstone.co.uk/radio/ ). It comes out on the 18th July on SolarSwarm, and has remixes from Adam Fielding (Hybrid inspired, now that he's signed to Distinctive!) and Temple One. I had to remove the original's SoundCloud link because the label asked me to, although you can hear a clip of the original in the player at the top of the screen here:

Original Mix - Jacinta's Voyage

or Temple One's remix here:

SolarStone's 'Big Tune of the Week': Avatar One - 'Jacinta's Voyage' (Temple One Remix) by AvatarOne

Thanks for all your input!

EDIT: 7 March '11.

Just a quick update on this track. It's been signed to SolarStone's social networking label solarSwarm ( http://www.solarswarm.com/ ), and Temple One will be remixing it, amongst others

EDIT: final clip here:

Avatar One - Jacinta's Voyage (final teaser!) by AvatarOne

Due to a variety of reasons I haven't been able to make any music since April, but I was finally able to sit down and start something yesterday.

I really wanted to do something classically trancey, but NOT cheesey, which was dreamy and evocative...anyway, I came up with this (it's still a work in progress (edit: I've finished it now ), and I've only put a clip up here), which is inspired by my 1 year old daughter, Jacinta.

The drums and percussion are Reason, the rest is Omnisphere and Sylenth, and it was sequenced in Ableton Live 8.

Mike

Ghost Smilie

Too short. Far too short.

Really? I thought all trance tracks were 1m 25 seconds long

(I did say it was a WiP!)

Honestly, too short is the worst thing I can say about it. It's quite good, so far.

I concur!

Very nice start. The mix sounds great so far and I love the blend of sounds. Looking forward to hearing the final version!

Thanks. We've just moved into a new house and this is the first track I've done here. I was a bit worried about mixing here, my 'studio' is literally our untreated master bedroom which is pretty much a box. Glad it is sounding ok though

sounds great!

Great start. Finish it!

Hey,

Thanks everyone! I've added another clip to the first post, so scroll up if you want to hear another (annoyingly short?) clip.

Glad it's being received positively so far

Mike

You'll regret this, sir. I do not like being toyed with!

If you and tehlord don't finish your respective songs, I'm recording their streams (yes! I see you made your clips downloadable but still...) and slapping together an unauthorized mashup of both songs REGARDLESS OF THEIR KEY!!

Love that flute sound, btw. Bass does sound a little muddy on the second clip, but I'm sure I can clean it up - should you and tehlord decide to make that necessary.

All told: Excellent, so far. Now finish the song!! Backtracing! The consequences will never be the same.

Hey,

Haha, that would be one ugly sounding mashup lol.

I'll clean up the low end tomorrow. For the second clip I deliberately wanted those huge stabs to be the biggest and lowest sound, and for the bassline to sort of sit on top of them during that part, if that makes sense. I'm not sure if it comes across properly, and I think that the new untreated room I am working in might cause me to have problems with the low end...hmmmm. Anyway, I'll have a look at it again tomorrow and do some low cuts in places.

Thanks

Totally. Maybe it's the bass-line bleeding into the kick or the decay on the kick lagging a little too long. Also, wait and see if anyone else agrees with me on this. It was almost nit-picky of me to say it since, ostensibly, what you have down there rocks. It was just some boominess that I noticed which I thought could be cleaned up, a little.

I just gave it a second listen. What you might try doing is cutting the low-end on the bass-line, coincidental with the chord stabs, at 60-80Hz, to let the kicks have their own space from 30-Hz and up.

Posted by Avatar One on Aug-29-2010 20:43:

When the stabs are playing a faster riff earlier in the track I have cut them hugely, everything below around 220 or so hz, in the second clip, I've actually pumped them up massively. In fact, I don't think I've EQd them at all, I'll check later and trial rolling off the lows on the bassline coinciding with the stabs as you suggested...hmmm, some sort of filtered sidechaining.

I normally roll off everything below around 200hz on every channel except the kick and the bass, and I always cut everything below 20hz regardless. That 2nd clip is the first time I haven't obeyed my rule

Thanks for your input, this is my first track in our new place and I'm still unsure of the acoustics.

I've finished the track, I'm really happy with the way it's turned out I've edited the first post to play the final clip....or you can play it here:

Avatar One - Jacinta's Voyage (final teaser!) by AvatarOne

Now I need to try and get it signed to a good label

Mike

P.S. I refuse to limit the hell out of my tracks. It should be loud enough, but if it isn't turn it up!

Posted by darthseph on Sep-07-2010 07:29:

I've got a couple of interested labels I could talk to. hehehe... solarSwarm (a rather unique project) and 'sm[th] though I think the Swarm would be a better home for the sound.

Hit me up and we can discuss if you are interested Avatar!

Sounding good still.

I'm only listening on sennheise buds but i'd prefer the elastic bassline to be a bit more forward. You may be able to use a bit of mid EQ to pull it to the front a bit, or maybe some multi band distortion, exciter etc.

Great stuff

Thanks for your thoughts I'll take another look!

Thanks Richard! It seems to be doing well. Manuel Le Saux has it in his 'Top Twenty Tunes', and SolarStone has just opened his last podcast with the Adam Fielding remix

It comes out on the 18th of July, if you're interested.
