Electronic Music Education

Hey guys,
I want to learn about all (at least most) of the different electronic instruments and synthesizers that are used by composers when they compose electronic music, whether it's trance, house, electro, etc.
Do you know of any website that teaches about electronic music and the instruments that DJs and producers use and their effects?

Nowadays, modern producers will take anything as a sound source. Vintage synths, software synths, normal instruments, samples up to some weird progressions to make even more new sounds.

I would check sites like sonic-state, for old synth stuff and KVR for all plugins around (which I think they are like 4500 in the database or so).

I have been producing for a bit over a year now. I came from knowing absolutely nothing about composition or the production of music in general.

The best way to start is first acquiring a good ear. Listen to as much music as you can every day. From their you will be able to to slowly pick up chords, progressions and how to assemble your track.

Youtube is a phenomenal resource for tutorials; but you first need to learn the basics of music production so you at least know what to research.

Also if you dont mind taking an academic route to learning; this text book does wonders for beginners and on. It covers just about everything so its definitely worth looking at.

If that's not enough; I always just type the question I have on Google. In 99.9% of most cases someone in the world has asked the same question you have and a solution for the problem or tutorial has been posted for said question. Google would be a great place to find it.

And as he said above, these forums are here for your questions. Take advantage of the help other producers are willing to give

The dance music manual is an interesting read imo.

I rather enjoyed the way he broke down the genres, especially for the genres I dont listen to.

one of the great things about EDM is that interesting music can come from sheer dedication and experimentation without any sort of formal or semi formal training. So just mess around, listen to lots of music and that is already a great start. You don't need to know how to use a piano or the name of a scale. You just need time and the willingness to move your mouse around.
