Angry Today sucks (or how I may be screwed out of 275 dollars)

Ok, Today started off as a good day but then turned to crap.

The facts:

I love Mountain biking
I need a new front suspension fork

So i am in this bike shop in Niagara Falls and I see a cheap fork. the price says 240 dollars marked down from 550 dollars. I though I had scored a sweet deal!!

So after phoning my brother and getting all the necessary measurments, I decided to buy the fork. That was mistake number one.

mistake number 1: kids, don't ever EVER buy anything without doing research on the internet first!!

SO I get home and take a look at my fork. First impression, it is VERY VERY stiff. I mean you could not make this fork compress at all. THIS IS A BAD THING.

So now I decided to check out the internet for some research. Well it turns out NOT ONE PERSON HAS ONE NICE THING TO SAY ABOUT THIS FORK!!!!

This is what some guy wrote about it:

quote:
This for managed to break in every possible way. First the prelude adjuster knob(I'll give them a break on that one it was recalled and the second one that I revived worked much better). The next problem was that I took the dampening knob out to change the oil and in doing it broke. Leaving me with no rebound, I managed to wire it back together for a short-term fix so I could ride while I waited for a replacement, but in the meantime the rest of the dampening system completely went. At this point I had two options ride without oil, or fill her up and let the fork lock out at the top as the oil all drained into the lower portion of the fork. On its last ride I managed to blow out the seal on a small jump, and what then happened was that the dampening side which helps keep the fork from over extending managed to break off from the bottom. I had to spend the rest of my ride making a conscious effort to keep my front wheel on the ground for fear that the fork would extend to the point that the sliders would come out. As for it know, it sits in pieces on a shelf in my garage. I fear that its bad-luck (quality) will now manage to taint my shelf.

and I think this sums it up nicely:
quote:
It really bites -- don't buy it.

SO now my Dilemma. I bought this on sale so that means usually no refunds but I am fucking pissed off. This bike shop had terrible customer service among other things.

Mistake number 2: never EVER go anywhere other than your bike shop where you bought your bike. I went elsewhere cause I saw this sweet deal. Now This shop will prolly not even give me my money back.

So here is my plan. I plan on phoning them up and berating the manager. I will demand that either they:
a) properly install and set up this fork or that they
b) give me back a full refund for this POS fork (this is what I most likely will do)

If they won't do it for me, I plan on getting my dad (yes yes go ahead and laugh at me. I am almost 19 and still need my dad to help get me out of these sorts of situations. He runs a business so he will be able to talk with them) to come with me and help me sort it out.
Do any of you work in retail? If so, are they just being lazy and big dicks by not giving me my money back? They can just RMA it back to the company correct? What are their reasons for saying that the sale is final?

I am sooooooooo frustrated right now. So what tunes would you guys (and girls) recommend to me to cheer me up?

forks!

Posted by Cafster on Jul-26-2002 13:01:

just from experiance...dont buy a fork (no matter how much they say the original price is) unless its made by Rock Shoxx, Manitou, or Marzochi(sp?). most everything else is shit.

this was a manitou fork though. But apparantly it is like the shittiest fork ever made or something. I am going to call up the bike shop soon and ask for a refund. I will go all dramatic and say that they could have potentially killed me by not setting up this fork properly.

this is gona sound totally retarded, but ive battled with many companies, esp my isp, and the only way companies ever cave in is if you make urself a MEGA problem! and i dont mean ring up, they say no, u moan a little end of story, ring the ******s back, hassle them, go down again if its not too far, take with u reviews from expert bike riders saying "you new this fork was shit and thats why you sold it and i aint taking it" and basically go on at them, on and on, and if they still refuse, start a hate campaign agaist them, post here in the local forum not to goto this bike shop, and in the end they'll cave in, if u make enough of a problem!

and im being deadly serious aswel!

Yeah that's what I am gonna do. If they don't give me the refund, then I am gonna write to the Better Business Bureau, the Chamber of commerce, the manufacture of the fork ect ect....

Thanks for the support guys!

Right now I am working at Toys R Us while I am in college, and the best thing you can do is bitch. Go to the store and make a seen in the store during business hours. Ask to talk with the manager. Threaten legal actions. Go nuts,do every off the wall thing you could do. People do this at Toys R Us and all the managers say is "Do whatever they want, just get them outta here."

GOOD NEWS EVERYONE!!!!
Well, I went to the store today and demanded that I get the refund. Let it be known that I had to deal with the worst manager ever. He essentially said it was my fault and that I don't know anything. But I didn't care. All I wanted was my money back and I got it.

so in conclusion, thanks for all the support and helpful advice and if there are any Southern Ontario TAs here, don't ever go to Bikefit if you need bike stuff. Go to my regular bike shop, Neworld in Burlington.

muahahah good one! well its my turn now, i ordered a lighter (not that i smoke, i got a knife on my keyring and aint a murder ) and it didnt work, so i sent it back to the company, explaining why and asking them to send a replacement, money has been taken out my account (suprise suprise :rollseyes and since then, they havent answered the phones, emails, absolutly nothing! and their answering machine has got full so i aint the only one shouting! so im giving them a 2 week holiday break, and then its fight the company time again!

Posted by lMIlk on Jul-26-2002 21:58:
