The Internet is bloatware

Anyone else get a bit tired of the profusion of big images, moving ads, and YouTube and other Flash embeds, and how quick people are to post a ton of them? These things are great in moderation (well, except for the ads), but the sheer quantity of them is kind of bugging me these days.

But maybe my irritation is merely one more sign of my having reached the status of technological senior citizen.

I just use a flash blocker with Safari

And fuck those sites that actually support flash for their shitty ads and games

Honestly, this kind of thing irritates me much less than it used to when I was younger. I think it's mostly because you don't see 24 pop-ups on any general site that you visit, or ads just randomly strewn about. Even though there might be a lot of them, they are generally worked into the design scheme of the website if it's worth half a shit.

Basically, internet ads in 2010 are much less irritating than they were in 2000 (not to say that it doesn't still happen.)

As far as embeds on forums and such, it just doesn't really bother me.

I was trying to think the last time I actually saw an ad but I can't even remember...

Or... maybe we're in a completely different Internet altogether... ?

Oh man, I'm freaking out.

It annoys me the laziness of people just to post a new thread with a youtube video & then expect people to respond. It's too easy for simple minds to do it though rather than put some words together in an intelligent manner.

Nah, they don't bother me at all.

That's why I rewrite all the websites I visit to provide the user interface I want to use rather than the user interface the site's designer had in mind.

I use firefox and it blocks most the annoying things these days.

The only things that really annoy me are adverts that create massive flash pop-outs when you go near them with the mouse.

Good call! I actually hate those flash pop-outs that block the entire screen the moment you visit the website.

If I visit a website, I sort of want to interact with it

I think the numerous ad-blocking and pop-up blocking add-ons speaks to this being a problem... Having said that a lot of the internet is funded by ads so I guess you have to put up with it for the greater good at times. It's just got to the point where I'm so used to ads I see them but I don't really "SEE" them anymore.

You can get a browswer addon or use your options to turn off scripting, images, java etc..

Thanks for your explanation! It's comprehensive.

Admitably it's nice sometimes to see what other people think of something rather than colouring everyone's view at first.
