Other than offshore drilling, can anybody detail a specific national policy prescription made by Sarah Palin? I don't mean "lower taxes" or "stop immigration" - I mean the how. This woman built her national career on a policy that led to one immense environmental - and economic - regional disaster, and may now have led to a second.

But what does Sarah Palin have to do with this spill or lack of according to the article.

The slogan, "Drill, baby, drill" is widely attributed to her and she has been an earnest proponent of off-shore oil drilling. Well, really more of an apologist since the policies and decisions to drill off shore were in process or place before she really landed on the scene.

Some of my favorite Americans are from the south. Texas has a huge liberal population even if it isn't enough to win elections there. I refuse to write that part of the country off. One of my best friends is from Arkansas and he's as left as they come.

Again, you make it seem like they are the minority down there.

This is not the case. These people in the gulf states have no ability to elect people that will responsibly govern for them. Democrat or Republican, they are totally irresponsible. There is corruption flowing from the rafters and they serve corporatist masters. They will be the first states to fall in line with the fascist doctrine sweeping the radical right in this country.

is a ridiculous sweeping generalization for an entire portion of our country. Are you entirely wrong? No. Shit, when I went to Panama City in 07 for Spring Break, I realized how much I hated most of the people from Alabama just because they're total douchebag rednecks. However, saying "the place is worthless" is complete horseshit, there are plenty of things to appreciate about the south.

Nou in sweeping generalisation shocker!

From what I've heard, this really isn't another BP situation. The well's only a few hundred feet down. It's a lot more "tameable" and shouldn't be grouped with BP's deal which was over 1 mile down and couldn't be easily dealt with due to the pressure involved.

Obviously, details are still coming out, but while this isn't good, it sounds like it's not going to go on for months like the last one.
