best mixer for 350 Cdn???

help....gotta find the best mixer in my budget of 350 cdn

You might not want to hear this, but save up a bit more.

honestly, if you buy a mixer for less than $500 you will just have to buy another one soon anyway.

you may as well just save a bit more. I would suggest you go for the Vestax PCV 275, it cost me $300 american.

or, if you really need one now, i would suggest this one:

$119 american

Examples?

Posted by JohnSmith on Jul-26-2002 23:22:

well, i don't think they are all bad at that price.

you can get this bad boy for only $30

that's about the worst mixer in the world though.

this one is really good though

$350 american though.

I have heard some people like these

http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl...002072616012634

I don't know.. some people like the behringer series..

*shrug*

after an exhaustive search, i found nothing under $220 american that i would want to use, or wouldn't want to upgrade from. that's why i decided to get the vestax. i will have it for a long time, and i think i made the right choice.

overall, if you are going to get a cheapo model.. then do some research and make sure it has a warranty.

Where is this DJ Depot man?

Posted by Sinonick on Jul-28-2002 01:31:

what's wrong with numarks? i don't think they suck that much not to be mentioned... doesn't have to be rane or vestax to be a good one.

numark 3002x & matrix 3 are quite nice (+below 500$)

what do you guys think?

Posted by Veldrid on Jul-28-2002 01:56:

I heard the Stanton RM-3 is pretty good. It is about $250 american, don't know what the hell that is in canadian.

Ecler mixers are awesome!
these puppies last forever ...

I don't know about the one you showed .... but I used to have the following ecler and it kicked ass ... I don't have it with me right now cause I have all my stuff stocked in another country damm it ... that's why I'm getting all new equipement in the following weeks

and it's actually cheap 350 USD!

ecler smac pro 30 link ... look at the faders! they are so sweet!

Posted by JohnSmith on Jul-28-2002 06:04:

Yeah, those angled faders are neat looking..
i don't quite get why you'd want them though?

anyway, that is still over #350 CDN.

there is this numark:

http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl...002072722482026

I guess it would be OK, but i have never liked numark mixers, they just feel cheap.

I would stay away from the stanton RMS3 i have head bad things about it.

there is also this stanton:

http://www.pssl.com/bitemdetail.tpl...002072722482026

optical crossfader, says it's adjustable.. i'm not sure, never used one of those.

I used another stanton though, and it was totally for scratching, the curves on the fader and cross fader were super sharp, not really suited to trance..

*shrug*

I looked at all these mixers, and i knew that i would want a new one, unless i got one a bit better.

oh shit that's right ... I need to check out the currency ratio to us dollars...

angled faders when scratching are the most awesome thing .... even if that's not what your searching for ... anyhow the faders are awesome and that's also a great + ( and that's rare to find decent scratch/mix mixers that cheap )
that mixer serie ( smac pro ) is just awesome for scratch and mix ... both types of djs use them

I'm not sure but I think the angled faders things are patented ... or at least no other companies do it
when the mixer serie Smac pro first serie came out they said in the ads "they will copy us" ...

have yet to see clones ...

Numarks are good cheap mixers, when they're new .... then the faders let go after some time ... but if you're cool with the mixer it should last a long time! but the faders will wear out ... actually that's not purely a numark problem ... it's a common problem with cheap mixers, the faders just let go and turn into crap

Optical crossfade ( don't wear out! ) ....
adjustable = makes the mixer somewhat "convertible" to scratch and mixing usage .... that means you ajust the curve of the crossfade to a short or long crossfade according to your needs ... that's a major + !!!....

that's the major diff between scratch and mixing mixers is the curve on the crossfade .... unless it's adjustable ... don't even consider using a scratch mixer for mixing trance you'll be so dissapointed you'll have to use the faders to make a decent crossfade..

Hey Johnsmith Looking at some of your latest post, I see that you have pretty high standards when it comes to equipment, nothing wrong with that ofcourse, but don't you think it would be fair to tell the starting-out DJ's this before you give them your advice? (no offence intended)

It's just that beginners may have a smaller budget and lower standard, just something to consider

Posted by Sinonick on Jul-28-2002 16:27:

what is wrong with matrix 3 ? i guess it would last long since it has those optical faders thing... +all extras +LOOKS COOL!!!
i think it's a perfect choice for beginners...

it's low cost too! (250-300$US)

haven't used numarks, but what is wrong with them and nobody likes them?
is it that they break easily or sth ? or are they low quality ???

ahh yess Matrix 3 .... I got the specs right next to me and it doesn't seem bad at all ...

there's also the Matrix 2 which is the same as matrix 3 just without killer switchs ( which I personnaly think are for lazy asses but anyhow )

the deal is ... if you get cheap ... well you get what you pay for .... numarks cheapos don't last long ...

well, i understand that. i was one of those people, i was mixing mp3s with VTT for so long, and i always wanted decks. then i saw them stanton and numark DJ in a box kits and thought, wow, i can get into this for onmly $500!! wow! i should do it. then, i thought about it a bit, and talked to some local DJs, and started posting here..

i realized that if i didn't get techs, i would be trying to sell whatever i got (probably at a loss), just to try and get techs later.

my friend started out with some stanton str80s, sold them, got 100s, and now wants to sell those for techs.

similarly with a mixer, i had the chance to get a numark or gemini, in fact i was even offered a really crappy worn out gemini for FREE!

I declined. I didn't want to have to upgrade, and pay twice. I didn't want to get used to crap equipment.

Now, you might think i am rich or something, i am not. it took me years to save for my 2 techs and vestax.

you might think i am a perfectionist.. well, you'd be right.

but, that's not why i got techs, or a good mixer. i got them becuase i knew in the end it would actually be CHEAPER, because i wouldn't have to sell the first one to upgrade.
