Friend of mine showed me this the other day. Pretty entertaining insight from behind the decks. Basically, if it's covered here, as a patron, don't ever do it.

This one always cracks me up.
And its always a girl who says it.
Can you play my request now? We are about to leave.
Never mind the fact that all your friends are dancing and having a good time.
Or that they just bought a new round of drinks.
You want me to think you are about to leave,
so I NEED to play your request RIGHT NOW.
I guess you expect to hear NOOOOOOO! Dont leave! Wait just 1 more second!
Nope! Not happening. I dont care.
Shit, I dont even think your friends will care if you leave.
Do you try this trick everywhere you go?
Tired of waiting in line at the DMV?
Just tell the nice lady at the counter that you are about to leave,
so you NEED that new license RIGHT NOW.

There are certain rules of etiquette that Opening DJs are supposed to follow.
Unfortunately, most of them do not.
This is why they are hated.
They burn through the hottest songs (or Bangers, as cool DJs call them) early in the night.
They leave the Headliner DJ with 42 seconds to set up and mix into a song.
They hang around the booth all night, trying to scam songs, drinks and girls.
Basically, they are just begging the Headliner DJ to choke them.
Every DJ has been an Opener at some point in their career.
Its the ones who dont get choked out that become Headliners.

Damn, being a DJ is so fucking cool. I should start doing it.
"I have a 500 GB hard drive on my laptop and an external drive with another 500 gigs"

Now I stopped what I was doing, took my headphones off, and am eagerly awaiting your sucky request, and what do you come up with?
Ummm. Hold on. Let me think

This guy works in a shitty club.
I've worked in shitty clubs before, but as there are 3 good clubs in Scotland there is not much chance of djing any of the good ones.
Ha, love this one. So true.
"Or more often, Can I make it do the Wiki Wiki?
DJs have to practice scratching.
It takes years to get good.
We have to listen to the song to know where to scratch.
You are on the wrong side of the turntables, dont have headphones on, and dont know what the fuck you are doing.
Do you go into a piano bar and ask if you could tickle the ivories for a second?
Do you go into a construction site and ask to pound some nails in?
Why the hell do you ask me if you can scratch?"

Anyone has the link to that old video that was posted here on TA with a DJ recording himself at an empty party saying "this is the worst party in the world, I just do it for the money?"
"because you are basically calling me a jukebox anyway."
That is pretty much what you are. Don't think you're somehow better because you play shit music in a top 40 club.
True

lol awesome little site
I find that playing house parties is even worse for requests which I why I try to never have internet on the laptop when I'm mixing "sorry don't have the song and can't connect to the internet".
Or when I'm feeling kind enough to let people look at my files/playlist and then being told"YOU SUCK THERE'S NO MUSIC I KNOW IN THERE!"
if you can, never play house parties they're the worse. If everyone is handling the music for the evening by going online without their being a proper dj it'll be a trainwreck. People cutting other peoples music off all the time, not even taking into account the fact some songs were already played, or that everyone was enjoying the song etc.
Once had a girl freak out saying IMMA DIE IF YOU DONT PLAY THIS SONG RIGHT NOW .... told her I didn't have it and even if I did I wouldn't play it ... she got pushy and annoying.... I unplugged all my stuff and proceeded to let someone take over with their ipod after there being a lot of yelling and bitching at the girl/me etc
