computer making weird noise
i know there are a lot of people on here who know computers well.
my CPU fan is making this weird noise - instead of low, quiet humming it's really loud and unsteady whirring, sorta like a car running. and it's loud too, like a frigde working. should i be concerned? looking for a new computer, maybe?
If the fan is loud and making noice it never used to before, than the solution seems to replace the fan. Maybe leave your computer off for the night and the problem is there in the morning replace the fan, cuz it doesn't sound like a software problem.

haha, thirsty! you jokers!
but no, i removed the fan and cleaned it and the heat sink from all the dust. then i placed it tightly back in place, because i thought the unfastened screws could be creating vibrations. hell no. i'm sure it's the fan, caz the sound is coming from it, i checked. i mean, my computer is almost 3 years old...
Get a new one, fans are VERY cheap.
make sure no wires are hitting the fan blades.it makes alot of noise...very annoying when it happens
I had the same problem for about 2 months, then it finally just blew. new one costed me $10 (canadian), so that means in american funds it'll be like $2 or something. lol
this means your fan is near death, replace it ASAP or you could fry your cpu

or try puttin ONE drop of machinery oil ( i don't know how to say it in english
) not more or it will spray the inside of your tower...
after 3 years it may have met the end of its life, as the others have said just get a new fan, cheep and easy to fit.
just think as to what would happen if the fan blew while you wernt at home...
one or more of the ball bearings inside the fan have cracked, thus meaning its gunna fck up very soon and once it has, ur cpu will literally melt to ur motherboard
GET A NEW ONE QUICK
fans are NOT "cheap" expect to pay 10-15 bucks for a chipset/box fan, and twice the ammount for the CPU fan...
Also, don't go for cheapest fans possible, since they will fail you asap, and you can end up overheating your CPU, which can lead to either random crashes or even the burning of the later one.. ;(
this happened to me as well... 3 or 4 year old pc (replacing in the nect month) whenever i booted it up the fan would make a weird gringing noise and squeak a little bit. but then one day it just stopped making all that noise and now it works fine... beats me. stupis celeron pos...
You dont need a new fan. Just buy a can of compressed air and blow it free of dust. Make sure to get one with the little straw that goes on the nozzle so you can aim it into the grooves of the heatsink. If you blow it clean and it still chugs, THEN buy a new one
If you start hearing noises like I did....I would suggest you look for a new computer, especially if it's a Compaq-style skinny CPU...huk!
There's all to it --> 3 Years.
Noise: For the past 4 months.
Verdict: Motherboard = Fried
Power Supply = Fried 2
The others = All fried as well
I suspected a nest of Black Widows in there all the time....but I guess it was time for a new computer anyways...
My new one has 120GB, 3 bloody big fans and on 24/7 for 2 months now...i am glad no noises are present now...maybe in 26 months time...
Lol! Good Luck!
