The recruit camp just started today. Love how pk subban said that "he needs to prove himself" to get a spot on the team.

maybe...but the hype around Louis Leblanc and the fact that he is getting his pedigree in town, is a francophone montrealer....unless he turns out to be a bust i'm pretty sure that he is going to wear the next C after Josh Georges possibly.

Wise choice with Gio, the only thing i don't like about this is that the players didn't chose.

gionta was asked about this at the golf tourney today and said he wasn't aware of this.

One of the CKAC reporters questionned all of the last years players who they would like to see as captain, and Gionta won by 2 votes fallowing Markov

i don't believe that anymore than CKAC reporting non stop on how Lecavalier to montreal was 100% going to happen.

French language hockey media in mtl = irresponsible reporting with very little fact checking...as long as it sells papers, makes people listen to the radio/watch tv they will go ahead and run with the story no matter what.

Gio is by far the fav candidate (bodog even has odds on this that you can bet.), so this story smells like la presse wanting to have the "exclusive" of a story everyone is expecting. It would make more sense for the actual captain to know before the press no?

Burns' career in the league spanned 14 seasons, coaching a total of 1,019 NHL games from 1988 to 2004. During that time, he won a Stanley Cup and an NHL-record three coach of the year awards. Hockey fans will remember the Montreal native as a fiery coach ready to take on any rival who stepped on his toes. His infamous, obscenity-laced tirades, often appeared in top 10 lists of NHL coach outbursts. But he was also an accomplished coach with a reputation for installing a strong defensive game plan. In 1984, Burns got his first full-time job in hockey when he agreed to coach the QMJHL's Hull Olympiques. Within two years, he guided the team to a QMJHL championship and an appearance in the Memorial Cup final. His work with Hull caught the eye of NHL teams and Burns was hired by the Montreal Canadiens to manage their AHL affiliate, the Sherbrooke Canadiens, for the 1987-88 season. A year later, he was promoted to the Habs and replaced Jean Perron as coach. The Canadiens won the Adams Division title that season with 115 points, before losing to the Calgary Flames in the Stanley Cup final. Burns' efforts resulted in his first Jack Adams award as coach of the year. In 1992, after a four-year tenure with the Canadiens, he left for the rival Toronto Maple Leafs. One year later, he earned his second Jack Adams Trophy. He would stay with the Leafs until 1996 before switching over to the Boston Bruins. Burns remained with the Bruins for four seasons and in 1998 he won his third coach of the year award. Burns then took a two-year break, before returning behind the bench to coach the New Jersey Devils. In 2003, he led the Devils to the Stanley Cup. Soon after, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and in 2005 a new cancer attacked his liver. He won the battle but in 2009 he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer. It was following this third diagnosis he decided to forego further treatment. He continued scouting for the Devils and was a frequent hockey contributor for a popular Montreal sports radio station, sprinkling his opinions with an inimitable humour that won over listeners. In March, he made his final public appearance, when the Quebec town of Stanstead announced it was building an arena bearing his name. He was greeted with a standing ovation and called the honour one of the highest points in his career. "I probably won't see the project to the end," Burns said at the time. "But let's hope I'm looking down on it and see a young Mario Lemieux or Wayne Gretzky."

I've met the man quite afew times and I have nothing bad to say at all, the perfect example of a gentleman that always gave time to the people that asked it of him.

edit: it wasn't the hall of fame, it was the arena named after him.

Stop bad tripping on one pre-season game. I can't believe how little patience most habs fan have. And FYI Halak gave 4 goals on 10 shots on monday vs colorado
