Other Options

Hey guys,

are there any other options for good electronic music on Friday nights besides Stereo and Circus? I'll be there next weekend and eventually am going to land up at Stereo but am looking for another option as well. House, techno or trance...doesn't really matter.

Thanks in advance.

You can check out Le Passeport, Pearl, and Salon Daome. Le Passeport and Pearl are right next to eachother on St-Dennis, and Salon Daome is on Mount-Royal in between St-Dennis and St-Laurent. I've only been to Daome on on thursdays, so I can't tell you about the music on fridays but on fridays Passeport has their house/techno/trance nights, it's hit or miss there.. and Pearl is pretty good, usually tech house. I'd say the best place by far is Salon Daome, such a great atmosphere, crowd, and if they're playing house I HIGHLY suggest going.

These places are underground dives, no pretentious people and bottle service.. you go to these places for the music. If you wanna go to a real club, then.. La Mouche or 1234 maybe? I dunno I steer clear from those places.

check out UN Club in old montreal. one of the best spots in the city right now.

Thanks guys! exactly the kind of options we were looking for.

I really suggest Daome, great atmosphere, but I haven't been to UN yet.

If I'm not mistaking Pearl is closed...

Next Friday is my monthly night at Passeport (September 24th).

If you want to check out a techno night (which I will be playing), that will also feature some solid prog (from the opening dj, One Aura), come check us out!

I would defiantly go with Daome. Has anyone been to Velvet? They bring in good DJ's from time to time but i think the crowd would drive me nuts.

yea i think pearl closed down

Go to Salon Daom on Mount Royal, always fun, always good music.

Club UN is also very nice, sound is quality and visuals are world class (they use 3D mapping projection technology):
CLUB UN - 390 Notre-Dame O.(entrance Sainte-Helene)

I am actually curious about that place myself. Comments anyone?

As mentioned by the others, Daome rarely disappoints.

Velvet brings good acts every couple of weeks (at least more recently) but the crowd is there for everything but the actual music it seems. Just make sure you dress nicely if you don't wanna feel out of place. Place gets really hot too so I wouldn't overdress (though I've only gone in the peak of summer, so I don't know how it is at other times). Drinks are also really expensive. I'd say go if you wanna see a specific DJ whose spinning there, otherwise I'd avoid it for the most part.

Honestly, I think that Velvet is the kind of place where local promoters can bring certain DJs they're really fond of without having to take a major financial risk. i.e. The place is usually hopping, so they make their money, even if they don't have the ideal crowd attending.

UN is pretty good spot to check out, good Dance Floor Space.
Daome is always a good time, very inexpensive to party there and the vibe is always fun. Hohm isn't bad either, its a little quiet at times, but the space is definatley there, probaly better if you know of people going.

Thanks for the feedback. So in other words, a fancy meat market?

I've been to Velvet but it was a private party so I didn't get to see the regular crowd.. all I can say is that it definitely has a great atmosphere and ambiance. It feels like a cave, I was super fucking drunk but I remember the sound system being pretty mediocre. Maybe I'm wrong though.

Next Friday in MTL as well:

The Junnkies (Toronto) at club Warehouse with local favorite Hakim Guelmi. Should be a great party. I'm sure you have heard these guys back home eh...? They spin 2-3 times a week!!

Followed by monthly FLEX event at circus afterhours with .....CARLO LIO!
Do you know this guy? LOL!!! You'll feel right at home!

Seriously both events totally worth it next weekend. you should check it out. FLEX is a great monthly underground afterhour party, you won't be dissapointed. Quality groovy tech.

Let me know if you need reduce glist for any of these events.

There are a lot of beautiful women there, don't get me wrong.

Velvet is the flavor of the month. Lots of fashonistas, models, artists, euros....it's hard to get in, NYC style. But the nasty St-Laurent crowd (i.e. Douches with daddy's credit card harrassing girls and buying magnums of Grey goose) is slowly taking over .... hype won't last.

Too bad cause the booker is doing an awesome job. Great music every night!

adolf is coming over for kimchi.

couldn't have said it better myself. i started going there when it first re-opened...i liked it, i had fun with my friends and maher. then i showed up in flat shoes (decently dressed, mind you)...my girlfriends were all pretty decked out but i still fit in (or so i thought)...and the doorman tells me that "i don't fit the club's recommended attire"...couldn't believe it. guess i was too ugly that night, ha.

i took my money elsewhere. haven't been back since. and it's too bad...i rly like some of their bookings (soulclap is coming up, etc...) oh well, i hope that crowd ure talking about pascal, does die out. soon. i stay home, away from 10-3 clubs these days, just because i can't stand them.
