Clubs in Chicago

Hey guys,

Im heading to Chicago this weeknd and was wondering if any of you have gone and what clubs I should check out as I have never been.
Any help would be great

Smartbar is ok, there is a lot of fucking hipsters there. They do bring in decent talent sometimes but its alot of techhouse stuff. its a basement, kinda like zone so the atmosphere is alright. if u can manage hispters with scarves in 90 degree weather and those where's waldo glasses.

Vision is the only place that plays trance. the crowd is ok. reminds me of koolhaus when the big events happen but less people and 3 floors.

spybar on fridays usually brings the best house talent and its a very small, intimate place. i think like 300-350 max is capacity.

I didn't find that the crowd at smartbar was hipster-ish at all. If anything I was impressed by the amount of people dancing, and dancing well. It was actually nice to see a more (comparing to Toronto) old school atmosphere. The people were very friendly, and a lot of fun. I highly recommend checking it out.

oh no i don't doubt that. unfortunately the last 7 times i went was pure crap. not many people dancing and actually there couldn't have been more than like 100 people. music was good tho. however the last time i went and it was awesome was december 2008. jeff mills was sick that night.

I like Crobar on saturdays, its like cameo in Miami.

cameo in miami used to be a crobar which was the modelled after the original crobar in chicago ... music policy is kind of cheese there though (or it was when I was there a few years ago). i'd liken it to something like "muzik" in toronto.

crobar in chicago shut down in April.

Vision, Soundbar and Spybar are all close together in the same area, spy and sound are directly across the street from each other.

Smartbar is cool but way out of downtown near Wrigley field. It's not a 'regular' club night as such, more like Opera House - whomever is playing drastically changes the night.

Vision is great. Went there for an after-lollapalooza party, where Wolfgang Gartner and JFK were playing. Three floors looking down at the dancefloor, great atmosphere.

At one point I remember being on the dance floor, stopping, and just looking around. Everyone was jumping around, crazy energy of people going nuts to the music. I look up and someone is popping a bottle of champagne off the 2nd floor lookout. To the other side, and two girls were grinding eachother off another lookout. Twas a good time.

Chicago has a a Local Scene forum too. Check that out, as I'm sure they have club/event listings.
