Mixed feelings about this, like the previous single Unite. The Fix and Can't Stop are rocking acid house that you know would be great fun to dance to, and Phoenix 97 sounds like an absolutely screaming prog trancer when it's not in the breakdown. The breakdown illustrates the problem here, though. Lee Softley just can't write great hooks, not like the BA hooks of old, and there's little in the way of epic chord progressions either. Without it you're left with a huge amount of riffage. These tracks are all basslines and riffs, which is good fun, but when Softley goes for a melody, like he does in Phoenix 97, it's just half-hearted keyboard stabbing. That track sounds seriously monstrous, but I wouldn't want to hear several minutes of the stupid riff in the middle. And Ecuador is just a bit rubbish.

I'll probably pick some of these up, but I'm not sure how I'd play them in a set. Not really playing banging prog at the moment.

i am - gunna have to check these out

excuse my ignorance but are these new tunes or older unreleased/re-releases?

I'm with Jack on this one, too much riffing. There just doesn't really sound like anything interesting is going on, although the tracks are quite stormy.

Ah, not quite. When I heard the sample for Pheonix 97 I thought I recognised it.

And sure enough I have, Paul Oakenfold @ Shadow Lounge, Miami, 28/03/1999, 78 minutes in, quoted on any tracklist I can find as either an ID or Man With No Name - First Day (Remix) there it is.

SAMPLE

it is clearly the same track pitched up a bit. If you look on the Blue Amazon Artist page on the Subversive website it lists a remix of the Man With No Name - First Day on Perfecto. Now I cant find any references to that ever being released anywhere so its possible it never was.

I hope thats cleared things up

What a waste of my lunch break HA

Well trainspotted. The Beatport info says this:

New 4 track EP from Blue Amazon. Includes previously Un Release title "Pheonix 97"

So the others are new tracks.
