Eyeglass/Frame stores or websites...

It's that time again, new glasses... but I only get covered so much for my benefits so if i'm paying out my pocket for my frames, might as well get some click cool badass looking ones and not just be restricted to the selection at my optometrist.


Anyone know of some cool websites or places to get nice frames? Doesn't even have to be name brand or designer, just solid, well built, cool looking frames...

(Wish I could have found a LensCrafters that had in stock the "Black White" Rough House frame though... Really wanted to see how those looked on me.

also a girl from work ordered a pair of glasses - she's pretty happy

I haven't ordered precisely because I don't have a valid prescription on me and I don't want to pay for an eye exam, but you might want to get that done - I also thought my eyes were the same for the past 2 years and then I got checked at the place where I bought my last pair (it was a free exam) and the prescription on my old pair was too strong..

for glasses I usually go to small ruski places since they do an exam on the spot and with no extra charges, plus they work around the amount I have in benefits money for eye stuff

At LensCrafters they didnt require that I have my eyes re-tested. They took my prescription as it was (which would be at least 2 yrs old).



And forget to mention the my favourite part of LC... have 90 days to decide if like the frames, to either exchange (no questions asked) for a new pair or just refund my money entirely. Alwasy a very nice option as it often takes me a while to really decide if new glasses really do suit me and that ill be happy wearing them for 2-3 years.

if you don't have a presciption they send you to their optometrist next door

I think he meant that he doesn't have one on him, rather then having an old one - either way I doubt anyone would accept a 6 year old prescription to be honest..

They do. My eyes haven't changed in years so I've been using a really old prescription. I have an appointment next month though and if it still hasn't changed I'm going to ask for a new copy just to make it easier.

Do you have glasses too? Or the box from your contacts? Bring those in with your old prescription, so if they give you a hard time then just show that it hasn't changed. They can read the prescription off of your glasses - however, it won't be exact b/c of scratches and wear and tear.

They took my prescription right from just analysing my old glasses' lenses themselves AFAIK. Plus made me look into something for like 10 seconds, whatever that did.

But yea, 2-3 yrs old = big difference from like 6 years old.

I think an exam every 2 years is a good idea, esp. if you have any sort of coverage through parent's benefits or whatnot. Otherwise yeah what you said - they should be able to read off the older pair of glases..

I do get exams and glasses every 2 years. But when the prescription doesn't change, it's common not to give a new one unless you ask.

Be careful when they read off of old glasses though, as I mentioned it's almost always off by a bit. So if they read it a bit stronger than what you're actual prescription is, make sure they lower it. If you get a higher prescription than what you need, your eyes can get worse.

yeah I was given a stronger prescription I wore for 2 years even though I had a eye exam done right on the spot - now I'm back on lower prescription

That's why I always go to an ophthalmologist rather than an optometrist. My dad and I both find that optometrists always try to bump your prescription up, whereas ophthalmologists bump them down so that your eyes work harder and try to get stronger. I'll never go back.

I have some pretty shitty eyes (special prescriptions and stuff) so I usually can only justify one pair every couple of years...


My only concern with getting them online or something is that you can't get them fixed as easy... Don't laugh, I got my last two pairs at Costco and not only are they cheap, but they replace the lenses for ANYTHING! Small scratch, scuff, they just order you a new pair. One frame broke at the hinge and they didn't have the same frames in stock, they replaced it with a frame of my choice and the lenses.

Another time I lost my glasses completely (The fell off my head from a 14th floor balcony), luckily I had previously re-ordered new lenses because of a small scratch, they just redid the frames and the lenses again... just had to pay for the frames.

In the past 4 years, they replaced my Lacoste frames once, replaced my FCUK pair once because the arm/hinge broke, then when those were lost, replaced the whole thing... And i'm there every couple weeks anyways so I always get them readjusted while there as a convenience...

Their customer service and price is GREAT! Just their selection of guys frames is lacking and hit or miss...

I looked a pair of Pradas and the total was $300, but just made up my script because I don't know it and to lazy to find it lol...

Free glasses in Toronto only with a valid prescription - I was trying to get into that list but you have to submit it online, and my eyes are different and I can't remember how much each eye is

Try to find an old one...

I don't think they want proof... hmmm, how do they prove that? One could just sign up for the lowest lense and get the frames for fee essentially...

Yep, free for both, just had to pay for the shipping which wasn't much. Offer only stands for 1 pair per household though, and there may be exclusions for some frames, I'm not totally sure how that part works. But, you could easily set some shit up with a bunch of your your friends in TO or whatever, and spread the love (back to you, I mean).

And yes, I'm in Australia. My gf ordered them off their AU site, put in the coupon code, and they were shipped from Canada by Fedex. Took 3 business days.

The promo you just posted is exactly the same as what we got last week. You 'like' them on FB, put in your details, and they email you the coupon code some time on the morning of the promotion day. We were lucky, and got it at about 8am, but I was checking the comments on their FB page and it seems like a lot of people didn't get their codes until quite late in the day. Worth a shot though, if you can wait for a few days.

I'm going to try, wonder how (if) they verify residency tho... I know many people in Brampton, Mississauga and Toronto area to send the glasses to, but dunno about the billing address.

Just have the shipping address as somewhere in TO (a friend's place, or whatever?) and you should be fine, I'd say. You might end up paying 2 lots of shipping (their shipping to your friend, and then your friend sending it to you) but it's still quite a bit cheaper than new frames/lenses.

Edit: I just asked my gf, since she spoke to their customer service people on the phone that day. The free deal isn't for the really expensive frames, just the lower price ones. She said up to about $150 or something like that? So probably rule out the designer labels.

Apparently they weren't too specific on details, you just have to try the coupon code with a few different ones and see which ones will let you apply the discount.

Yeah, figured it wouldn't be the expensive frames...

Wonder if they will throw a fit about the difference from Toronto vs. Brampton/Mississauga?
