Movies you were excited to see as a kid, but ended up being a disappointment

I'll start.

Gorillas in the Mist: The Story of Dian Fossey
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095243/

I heard the title and naturally assumed it was gonna be like awesome fucking king kong action! Huge disappointment and I still haven't seen it completely.

The Pink Panther
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0057413/

I was so excited since I thought it was supposed to be a cartoon movie. I fucking lived for cartoons since we had only 3 channels and they showed very little cartoons. I was seriously a cartoon starved kid. Although my dad encouraged me to see it all and there were some funny parts (the hide and seek in the apartment!), but mostly boring for a 4 year old.

One of the worst of all time.

Also: s01e01 of twin peaks

Bob scared me shitless. I couldn't sleep for weeks. I had been all tough and insisted to dad that I could see it.

Sort of a reverse from the thread title, but I Netflixed The Last Starfighter the other day. Gotta get around to watching that this week. Something tells me it may not hold the same appeal as it did back in the day.

I honestly can't think of any.

This doesn't count because the movie was superb - but I was really disappointed when Mufasa died.

Yeah, I thought it was a cartoon as well, I was rather disappointed when I first watched it.

I've actually re-watching movies from my youth because I want to remember them as I did when I was a kid, and to see them now might lessen that.

Except Princess Bride. That movie will never change in my eyes.

Think I'll get Krull next.

Poltergeist. My parents wouldn't let me watch it because it was supposed to be scary. So, one day, I woke up in the middle of the night and watched it... and slept pretty well afterwards

It certainly was at the time. It will be interesting to see how much of it I recall. If I tried to get the kids to watch anything like that with me they'd think I'd lost it for sure!

I actually watched in last year, as it was on TV. I still really enjoyed it, but nostalgia did probably play a part it that.
