Trance Energy no longer Trance only

quote:
Dance event Trance Energy will continue under a new name.
The change is simple: only Energy will remain. According to the organizer, ID&T, it will not mean that there will be no more trance played at this new event, it will continue 'without too much musical compromising'.
The first edition of ENERGY will be held February 19 2011, pre-sale will start October 9.

Thoughts? Are ID&T onto something?

And so it ends. Even an event called TRANCE Energy admits trance just ain't popular anymore.

Looking forward to Electro Energy!

First time I went to TE, it was an amazing event, this news makes me sad.
Like every festival we have around holland & belgium that has a great "niche" crowd evolves towards a general "more of the same" event...

Posted by osterzone on Sep-22-2010 13:53:

Bad idea.

The festival always sold out under the trance moniker, so it has nothing to do with trance not being popular anymore.

This is now probably going to be some show headlined by guys like deadmau5 and Swedish House Mafia. But the problem with that is that bringing in other guys doesn't allow the niche guys to perform at TE- some of the uplifting and progressive DJ's. They'll get bumped off.

IMO not having these niche festivals isn't a good thing. Too many festivals worldwide are being headlined by the same fucking guys...it's incredibly dull to look at the lineups.

Having niche festivals like DEMF reward people for digging through a particular genre and finding new artists to listen to. Artists that may not be as popular, but could still appear at a festival. Now you're replacing the bread and butter with mainstream garbage.

^ what he said

It is because they are booking Tiesto and he doesn't want to play under the "Trance" name so he is making them change the name.

Tiesto made trance big, now he is killing what he built.

F***-YOU TIESTO!!!!

Actually it wasn't sold out last year.

A quote a thread on t.nu:

Someone of ID-T staff told me this:

Pixie Beau Hi Jordi,
there will be ONLY trance at Energy, we have only changed the name of the event.

Kind regards,
Pixie Beau

This year it wasn't sold out as has been said.
I was there, and indeed it was pretty quiet and the show wasn't as grandiose as before. I also had a much better time because of it.
I for one welcome this change. I really missed the house stage this year, a little variety probably goes a long way in attracting more visitors.

Besides, they really messed up last year. Armin for instance couldn't come so they had him spinning live on a tv screen from god knows were, brought to us by vodafone. It was great, just like watching a fucking DVD. Mad props to the organizers for that.

The problem with expanding genres is that you lose what makes the festival different.

I hear all this stuff about how Creamfields, Ultra, Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, Sensation, etc. are all one-of-a-kind events, but in reality it's just the same fucking guys playing at every festival.

Armin Van Buuren
Tiesto
Above & Beyond
Deadmau5
David Guetta
Swedish House Mafia
Markus Schulz
Ferry Corsten

literally...find me one major festival in the last year that didn't have at least half of those guys in the lineup. The only one I can think of is DEMF. And because Trance Energy looks like it's not going just trance anymore, you can add that event to the growing list of festival clones.

The Anthem:

I think it sucks heavily. Where did the amazing anthems go?

At Partyflock.nl most aren't happy with the change.

There are countless electronic music festivals every year that don't feature any of the big names. I'm always hearing about great festivals like OZORA (http://www.ozorafest.hu/) that are completely off the mainstream radar. You don't want to hear big DJs? Don't go to big festivals.
