The Agenda: Emerging Adulthood | What is it about 20-somethings?
I stumbled upon this report/debate on TVO a few days ago, and thought it would be of interest to lots of people on this board considering many of us are in our 20s.
It's about a new phase in life that researchers are calling "emerging adulthood" which is between the teenage years and the adult years.
The report talks about the economic and social realities of people in their 20s today.
It's definitely worth the watch. Make sure to check out the videos on both tabs.

Thanks for that.
If I was thinking the same way like my parents. I would have been married already 2-3 years and had a mortgage. For one, I have yet to meet someone that could keep me tied down willingly and I dislike the idea of having a kid. Two, even if I got a decent job. I truly do not want a mortgage for over 5 years.
As long as I have a stable income by 30. I will be quite happy, but for now. Business as usual.
I know one person. She just got engaged and she's like 20 or 21. Thing is, her fianc is in his mid-20s or late 20s.
Can't wait to watch this.
20's are a tough time.... growing up and realizing you can't party every weekend because you need to save for a house/car/future/invest etc. sux.

The original article was published a couple of months ago. Interesting read at first, but nothing all-together revealing.

I like the european model of living. Pay your bills 5 days a week. Party all weekend whether u are 18 or 38.
People there ALWAYS find a way to go out which is why there are so many events, djs and festivals over there.

| Originally posted by MissK Not only does saving prevent me....My brain, my day job and life style cannot take the partying every weekend anymore. To be honest with you, I can't envision me living my life the way I used to. I am so comfortable now and enjoy my couch and movie time. 8/10 times I would rather be doing that than be in the club. |

I'm usually out of a party by 4 or 5 the latest and that's stretching it. Back in the day if I looked at my watch and it said 5 am, I would be happy because it meant I still had at least 5 hours left to party..

You can still enjoy but everything in moderation and going crazy like you did in your twenties is usually not the best way to prolong your party life.. I think the biggest problem is that young adults are scared to grow up. My generation was expected to be 4-5 years later in development then our parents simply because we went to university and most of them didn't go. Not much has changed since I was in my 20s but I find more and more people are staying at home longer or they are wandering through life without any direction.
To add to what Chem just said. I don't things have changed so much in the last 10 years, BUT, as tuition increases and with more and more people going to university, more people will be in serious debt, for longer periods of time. Coupled with mostly stagnent wages, the common sense approach to living would be to save as much as you can.
