tubular bells

Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" was the first major piece of music i learned how to play on my own growing up as a kid. i took lessons for a few years, but quit because i hated it. after picking it back up on my own, i found much more enjoyment playing it; instead of a scolding piano teacher standing over me.

it's been awhile since i've played, but now that i've got a piano, i should be practicing more often. pardon the mistakes, the bad sound quality on my camera, the piano that hasn't been tuned in 3 years or so, and the echo of the garage.

anyone else play piano?

guitar is way more complex than the piano.

wtf is with these threads, there have been at least 3 "do you play the" threads in the last little while.

do you play the mouth organ?

I wonder if this would be as creepy if it was never made the Exorcist theme? Shit sends chills down my spine/makes me anxious every time.

good question for sure. a lot of M.O.'s music has spanned many a genre, but nothing (even TB2 and TB3) come close to the original.

As an ignorant kid (and even later as an even more ignorant teenager) i was always looking down on the classical instruments as i never appreciated the music made with them. Now, some years later that ive really started to appreciate music im a bit down that ive never taken the time to study the piano or the violin.

Never really enjoyed Tubular Bells past this opening section. Turns into noodly folk-prog wank way too quickly.

The Orchestral Tubular Bells is pretty awesome though.

Maybe it's because of the fagbook upload, but this version has a distinctive mono sound.

As somebody who hasn't seen The Exorcist, I can confirm that this, on its own merit, is not creepy.

Posted by Silky Johnson on Sep-23-2010 19:03:

Heh, I figured as much.

The Exorcist was hilarious and awesome. And the music is fucking great, though I always get it mixed up with the Halloween theme when I try to recreate it in my head.

We watched The Exorcist when we (my sister and I) were 8 and 11. My mom's bf's son, also 8 at the time, watched it as well. The next night we were all woken up at 3 in the morning by him, thrashing around in his closet, crying that he was possessed by the devil.

i always mix up star wars and the superman theme song. Try huming both one after the other.
