i wanted to see for myself how people play fps on a controller. now i know why you find it so retarded. never buying another FPS for xbox again. may hawking bless you

Posted by pkcRAISTLIN on Sep-26-2010 23:18:

yeah, it sucks the wang. Basically they have to re-engineer an FPS in order to make it work. Try playing halo on the PC; its the slowest, dumbest most boring title Ive ever had the misfortune to play. Due to controllers.

Never play an FPS with a controller, the same way you should never play a fighting game with the keyboard.

Posted by jupiterone on Sep-26-2010 23:20:

i want that XFPS module for connecting a mouse and kb to your xbox. then i would beat the shit out of everyone on xbox fps. i'm just too used to pc fps

xbox is great for sports gaming. racing, fighting, ect. fps? no fucking way. no way can a damn nipple knob replace a mouses accuracy, in a million years

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Sep-26-2010 23:27:

I don't really have a problem anymore. Yes the mouse and keyboard is far better, but it's all about the quality of game design. GoldenEye was made for a shitty gamepad with only one analogue stick, yet it still effortlessly bossed every PC FPS at the time. As long as the developers design around the dual sticks, there's no issue.

What really annoys me about console FPS is the lack of custom config controls. There's no reason why you shouldn't be able to create your own configuration, but console developers still patronise their players.

Always found the Xbox controller to work quite well for FPS's. Especially the original bulky Xbox controller. I know it sucked for everything else but for an FPS it actually felt really good in your hands.

i always have found that video game time cuts way too much into vagina time to make my ratchet clank.

that being said i cant 3 shot for shit anymore

halo MP just pisses me off so much. every sensitivity setting i assign, all the hours i put i can't do shit. how in the fuck do those guys snipe so well on a controller? i mean really, it seems so ridiculous. it's rather a butthurt thread from halo mp, but seriously. it's really really aggravating

mid air snipes every round off the propulsion pad on cage. come on

Posted by IL Duce on Sep-26-2010 23:38:

now now, lets not get ahead of ourselves. Half life and quake shat all over goldeneye (as good as it was). Also, playing DM in 4-player splitscreen was beyond lame.

Posted by jupiterone on Sep-26-2010 23:46:

including how small tv's were at that time, you could barely see your target

and how bad anti-aliasing was with n64. but still, GE was truly a fantastic game. SP was AWESOME, so was multiplayer but the split screens were terrible

combo of both.

nerd mode engage:

its all about positioning and call outs. for sniping its way easier to pick people off when you know where they're coming and they don't expect it. if they have tryhards being like "SNIPE at S2!" then you're going to have a hard time. they position the aim so that they don't have to do much moving and the foes just walk into it.

also habits, a lot of people get lazy and or tired and aim at the floor, the pros constantly aim head level and they know where people are from team work, so before you're even in their sight they have the cross hair pratically on you and minor adjustments to seal the deal.

and having sensitivity at 4 is the best

Real pros take a massive shit and smear it inside their x-box, then go play Quake Live.

Aiming. Sweep-sniping isn't in Halo Reach at all. They've removed it. It's not too difficult to no-scope with the sniper rifle: the hit-box on the head is pretty large and there's still auto-aim on the weapon. I can headshot people without using the scope quite easily on Reach. What I can't do anymore is the snipe+melee combo. I don't know if they've slowed down the melee or if my reactions can't adjust to it being on a new button, but I used to be lethal at close range with the sniper rifle on Halo 3.

Half-Life came out over a year after GoldenEye. When GoldenEye was released, the best FPS on the PC were Duke Nukem 3D and Quake, and Quake was a fucking joke compared to GoldenEye. It's laughable that you even compare them. Quake was an obsolescent mindless maze-crawler notable entirely for having a good 3D engine, and Quake 2 was bullshit as well. GoldenEye completely fucking changed the entire genre, I could write an entire post about the massive innovations it introduced that are now standard issue in every modern FPS. There is only one other FPS ever made that was as important as GoldenEye, and that is Doom.

And I had a 32" TV at the time, and split-screen multiplayer was fine. In the pre-Internet era split-screen was the first time most people had played multiplayer FPS.
