Juno Awards add new category: Electronic Album of the Year

Took them long enough.

The Juno Awards have added a new category � Electronic Album of the Year � bringing the total number of awards handed out to 40, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of Canada�s national music awards.

The new category is defined as album-length original recordings composed with electronic equipment as the essential songwriting tools and defined by their electronic elements. Musical genres and respective subgenres such as (but not limited to) techno, house, electro, trance, drum�n�bass, dubstep, grime, electro-acoustic, turntablism, sample-based music, ambient and downtempo are eligible for this category.

Finally, Crystal Castles can realize their lifelong dream of winning a Juno!

�Over the past 40 years, CARAS has evolved and expanded to constantly reflect Canada�s musical landscape. This new category is more evidence of our ongoing commitment to recognize the depth of Canadian music and the innovation that our artists continue to put forth,� said Melanie Berry, President and CEO of CARAS, in a statement.

The 2011 Juno Awards take place in Toronto next March.

They don't televise the Electronic portion of the Grammy's, why would they bother with this...

Just the dance recording of the year which, of course, Joel won...

He definitely is a deciding factor in actually creating this new category. What other canadian producre/dj/entertainer in the electronic music business has had international fame...outside of the EDM world like him? I can't really think of any.

I still don't think you will see this category on television but with the growing popularity of the music it very well may be on television in the near future.
