[REVIEW] Gareth Emery at Glow DC
Well, it's just passed 5 am and i'm starting a review thread... That's how FUCKING DOPE Gareth Emery was. Seriously, yo. It was like... whoa. WHOA.
Gavin asked if I was writing a review and track list on TA... maybe if I was a Burak-G Money hybrid I could do the IDs, but off the top of my head... This is that Silence, Sanctuary, Suburban Train (Tyas) to close, Big Sky (Agnelli & Nelson), some Lethal Industry mix he played at Zoo, C'mon, second track in was a remix of Heaven Scent, Metropolis Day of course, Satellite (which im listening to right now and wishing I could relive the night over and over), i mean, i dont even know man. oh, Platinum (Ben Gold) fucking GUTTER as hell. *edit* remembered more had to get out of bed to write them down. Pendulum - The Island, a remix of Cafe Del Mar, He mashed up As the rush comes with something, i want to say exposure maybe, I forget i was going to wild to remember. as the exposure comes, yeah that makes sense, he played it at zoo. i want to say i heard chakalaka or something that sounded like it. pretty sure he dropped Global. I remember playing the stabs with my fingers lol. yeah, great fucking night
crowd was amazing, he spun 12:30-4, finally a DJ spun til 4. it was well worth the wait.
all the DCTA's were out and all had good things to say. even mr. tknoxtc himself was impressed. LOL
You're a half a world away
But in my mind I whisper every single word you say.
And before you sleep at night
You pray to me, your lucky star, your singing satellite.
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was even better than his set at Zoo. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I cannot WAIT to produce this ep of Glow TV. Oh and I asked him his thoughts on Trance Energy becoming just Energy... the scowl on his face said it all.
now I don't feel so bad about missing simon, aly & fila and tommy boy. and of course I get a text from Des around 2:45, "simon played my remix" all in caps. lol. iyyaaa
that's dope man now i'm even more excited to see him here at the end of the month!
what mix of satellite did he play? just the original. what a track man i've always wanted to hear that out haha i love markus' mix.
God damn, this makes me so happy. Seeing him in two weeks. I hope I have that kind of night.

I had a blast!
All the old Glow heads/trance lovers (from '07-'09) came out last night!
I decided I was just gonna try to not drink much last night. I waited like 30 minutes before I got a drink. Then I had 1 drink and realized I was having more fun sober so I just stayed sober the rest of the night. I was so full of energy last night because of friends, the great music, the great vibe in the crowd.
Such amazing music! I was so happy and dancing like crazy in the corner on the right hand side of the stage (near where the bar is). I was wearing a dress and a tiny black backpack on.
Ya Emery played a bunch of mashups, in particular he played a bunch of intros of classic trance songs and then played another classic trance song. I'm that person that realizes what song it is within the first 30 seconds of the intro, about 30 seconds before the crowd does, so I start yelling before everyone else but b/c they were mashups, the chorus never came on and I probably just sounded odd at times.
Wow I hadn't seen Emery in 4-5 years, last time I saw him was at a forest rave in LA when I was 16!
I was so happy last night! I realized you can take the girl from the trance but you can never take the trance out of the girl. I missed Trance so much! They just don't really play it all that often in Tokyo/Japan.
People were asking me how my last year in Japan was and it was awesome but man I missed DC and there's something about the scene here that I really really love, even though I've partied in many big cities around the world, I think DC might be my favorite scene.
Ah man when he played Oceanlab- Satellite, I took my backpack off and just got into a groove.
At about 3AM I decided that I actually need to stop putting it off and go into physical therapy for my knee. I hurt my knee 3 months ago and its gotten much better and I've been able to dance just fine until I danced that crazy for that long to Trance and at 3AM my knee was just OWWWWW. I danced through it (it wasn't horrible pain) but I'm gonna make sure I get taken care of ASAP so I don't have to miss out on dancing to my heart's desires!
BTW Who are the DCTAs (that you're talking about)? I don't know any DCTAs that aren't already on the Glowboard (Groovanauts).
[All the Glow heads I was talking about I met on the Glowboard like 3 years ago.]
I was actually planning on going to the Massive Event 4 Year Celebration because I was going to got to a conference in NYC this weekend but it was disorganized so I got booted from the list to the conference so I ended up staying here and I'm glad because I had so much fun last night.
I always get such a kick out of seeing people you wouldn't expect to like EDM if you didn't know much about them, singing all the lyrics to Silence, Satellite, and other trance classics, and just going mad dancing.
I saw some of the best dancing I have seen anywhere in the world in the last few months (Tokyo, LA, DC) last night. I was so happy to be around so many great dancers having such a great time!
cielo in 2 weeks w00t! cant believe he played that classic satellite! hope he gives us the same treatment..and that lethal industry mix was a mashup with stadium four btw

Thanks for the abbreviated track list Ravi. Brings back some great memories of last night. Good point RE the Emerys performance justifies missing Simon and TommyC. Looking forward to your GlowTv production.
Yes it was a great night, couldnt believed how long Emery played for. When I heard Platinum, said its over, since I have heard both AVB and Tijs close with this track. Then Gareth dropped track after track more.
Anyone guess what was the BPM of Big Sky? 140+
I did not know Emery can hit it that hard. WOW!
Anyone know the remix of Silence? (Or was it the 10/10/10 Glow/Emery remix) LOL
I was definitely impressed with Gareths mixing , from beginning to end! Anyone else notice the FLANGER-use on the start of Lethal Industry? I chuckled when I heard it.
Gareth exploded the first track of his set with Tiesto Feat Diplo - C'mon with just enough of the track to get the crowd jumping, then quickly mixed into the next track.
The closing track Gareth dropped had the familiar chords of Suburban Train that we all know and then immediately mixed into the sections that could only be the Tyas remix. It was brilliant!
Hey Glow, see you next week for Tijs.

Gareth was amazing. It was the best set I've heard this year. Everything just clicked that night. Gareth couldn't do no wrong with his mix and selection dropping bomb after bomb, mixing new and old. And the crowd went bananas feeding off from the amazing set.
I think the difference was the sound system. Fur's sound system is notorius for its inconsistency. Let's say inconsistent would be a kind word for it. I don't know why, but on this night the sound system was on point. The vibration from the system made you dance! You had to jump to the beat. Gareth and the crowd interacted and the magic happened.
The clubs most people consider legendary had one thing in common. Thumping sound system that made your bones shiver. To be honest the Fur's system could never make your bone shiver, but with proper setting it could still make people go nuts.
How hard is it to maintain a proper sound system? I thank Fur for finally getting something done to the system. Now keep it the same way from now on. Then you will see people coming back for it week after week. The DJs will appreciate it and play set of their lives and until 4 am.
It was a hell of a night! I got over 30 minutes of video from the set and will post the links up here when I get them all uploaded.
this is good to hear. i can't wait for him to come to NY. definitely! thanks for the reviews
