The Wanderer - Autumn Mixtape (Old trance/prog, 'n things)

[FONT=century gothic]Though I'd finally post a mix of mine..

It's a part of a seasonal series, with tracks that in my opinion represent the mood of each season.. This one starts a little foggy, then develops into some harder proggy tranz, it gets somewhat dreamy with a dark twist at the end.

This is a mixtape kind of set, focusing more on the tracks then on the technical perfection. This allowed me more freedom in BPM range, which required some creative mixing, you'll see..

I spin only old stuff lately, newer stuff wouldn't fit in anyway.. Took some preparing, ripping stuff from vinyl, transition planning.. Finally recorded in one go today.

I hope you will like it.

holy mother of trance

01. Icon - Desire (Icarus Mix) [Eye Q Records, 1994]

this is a crazy opener, one of my favorite tracks on Eye Q

the mix looks incredible

Looks solid. Interested to see how the Heads of State mix and the Van Bellen track will sound since I always thought of them as being uncomfortable selections for mixing. Great looking mix though; will listen and review.

this mix had some really really good tunes. revisiting this stuff is like brainfood. the transitions were good for the most part, a bit wobbly in some places. the only real criticism is that for me the direction seemed to fall off after Age of Love came in.

you should spam this mix all over the internets.

I have downloaded, will listen later today

Really glad you liked it, man. I knew that some transitions are not the best ever, particulary the one between Demosong and Flaming Star, but this mix isn't really about showing off my dj skillz so it's not really important, upped it anyway.

Few tracks after Age of Love were pretty much improvisation I was going for something unexpected, yet good, to set the mood for the Winter mix which will be darker.

I tried to pick the tracks with charisma, ones that you don't forget after a few listens.

Thanks a lot for checking it out man!

Nice to hear that! Thanks for checking it out, appreciated!

Sendspace and Dropbox added to the first post, but I'm not really sure if dropbox will work..

i gave this a listen for shits and giggles.

the tracks were good, the mixing was not. Practice dude. This set could really have been something special. Track selection is 90% of the craft, so get the other 10 down!

I appreciate honesty, son. I guess that's what I get for pretending I can mix

Posted by Goebbel Goebbel on Oct-11-2010 18:38:

keep at it.

mixing is really easy once you take the pussy off of the pedestal and realize that it is just basic math mixed with a touch of timing.

Hey, man, good set. Tracks were totally ace, with a tracklist like yours there's no way you can go wrong. Flow was okay, I was a bit confused with the progression sometimes. Since it kinda plodded along it was okay for you to drop a few bombs here and there, and that helped it progress. However, I must agree with Jay that there were some not so great transitions in there. Part of the problem seems to be that the track will end, or start to end, and you're only part of the way through your transition. Perhaps if you started beatmatching earlier, you'd pass the energy along cleanly instead of letting it drop. In particular, these hiccups appeared at 10 minutes, 23 minutes, and 38 minutes. I listened to the set twice, and it was really good both times. Really good job, practice makes perfect, and I can't wait to hear your winter set. Thanks bro.

Thanks for constructive criticism, Zip! I have listened to the transitions and then mixed them again, found a way to make them sound proper. The mix was upped before I even previewed it, straight after it was mixed. Bleh...

Glad you liked the tracks man.

I have removed the mix, I will post a revised/remixed version tomorrow or when I have time.
