MANIK - McLovin You EP [Culprit]
Personally I'm very exited about this release. MANIK is a great producer and DJ, and a great guy to boot. Clovis and I opened for him at the Culprit Homegrown sessions and it was easily one of the best parties we've played. This release has been getting a lot of support from the Culprit crew (obviously :P) and others.
From the press release:

| Celebrating its tenth release, Culprit welcomes another extremely exciting and upwardly mobile young American producer to its fold, M A N I K. Born and raised in NYC M A N I Ks youthful looks belie the serious and sophisticated musical talent that lurks beneath. 2010 has been a break out year for this 25 yr old with his own original material appearing on some of the best underground electronic labels including Josh Wink's Ovum, Poker Flat, Hideout, Four:Twenty and Chicago's Fresh Meat run by Audio Soul Project. Following his first EP for Ovum M A N I K approached Culprit, sensing a musical kinship with the labels love of combining modern cutting-edge with warm analogue retro sounds, as well as their support of American born and bred artists . From almost an album worth of material, Culprit handpicked four sonic nuggets, and "McLovin You" was born. The relationship was further cemented with M A N I Ks recent LA debut at Culprits rooftop summer party. As a DJ and producer its impossible to put M A N I K in any one box. Graduating from school in 2007 with a degree in Music Business, he is not by any means your typical artist. Being heavily inspired by a diverse and comprehensive musical background, his style is a unique blend of cutting edge house, futuristic techno and deep, classic old school grooves, along with dark & edgy sounds. M A N I K "McLovin You" 1. McLovin' You 2. Sex Panther 3. Crooklyn 4. Jazzabella With McLovin You and Sex Panther, Chris pays a subtle homage to Hot Natured (Culprits first artists), with soulful R'n'B inspired vocal bits, chunky melodic basslines and a groovin' deep vibe that still packs a propulsive and percussive punch. The tracks feature liberal use of analog synth pads...its retro futurism on full display that showcases M A N I Ks polish and production maturity. Crooklyn is more old school house inspired, with a touch of acid, but similarly slower in tempo with a strong sense of funk. Its a moodier, more late-night counterpart to the A-side tracks. Crisp hi-hats and late 80s style bleepy acid sounds form the backbone of the track. Jazzabella is the wistful melodic jam of the four...a slice of nostalgia-tinged deep house...another subtle acid bassline serves as a counterpoint to a jazzy riff thats the most overt melody yet on the label... |

Been playing these, quite like McLovin' You but it's not as good as his last one on Four:Twenty imo
Good stuff all in all though
Why are the As, Bs, and numbers out of order
