They've been down there for how long? Just over 2 months, 69 days or something...


Couldn't they have waited 8 more hours for daylight?

Just sayin...


Glad they are safe and everything, and amazing that they were able to stay healthy and that they would manage a way to rescue them...

But I'm sure daylight could make this whole process ALOT easier from the top side...


EDIT -- I'm an idiot, I never even thought that it was precautionary because of the light adjustment they would have to endure once coming outside after months in that much darkness...

And good thing the took the extra time to paint the cage right? I mean, if time was of the essence...

This is a real world game of lemmings.

Hopefully they all get out safe asap. 2 months in total darkness is scary. All they could do is believe they would get out.

it takes about 1 hour to rescue each miner so there is no way to avoid doing it at night unless they plan to shut it down for 10+ hours at sunset

they were not in total darkness. they had lamps that one miner figured out how to recharge using car batteries

The whole thing is nerve wracking. It's unbelievable that these men could have survived so long down there, but the mine couldn't be safe enough for them to go down and do their jobs on a regular day.

The media coverage, the support from the whole world is just mind boggling. Apparently the miners received media training while still in the mine.

There's definitely gonna be a movie about this.

There's also multiple women coming out for the same men.. Drama! lol

Being Chilean myself, I'm even more relieved that they are finally being rescued...

I just don't understand why it took so long....

Well at least they are all good and healthy. They'll be famous for the rest of their lives...

I was really impressed with everything. Over the past 9 weeks I've read nothing but dedication and determination - this is something that could have easily been written off as a tragedy. The chilean government truly stuck by its people and kept the world inspired and hopeful. Originally they estimated they would be out for christmas so being half way through October is pretty impressive. This wasn't as simple as let's drill a hole and get them out....

They had quite a bit of space... it wasnt tight or anything but it was really dark. They ate tuna and cookies until more food was dropped down.

Anyways, I just can't believe how hard the first 17 days must have been for them when no one knew they were even alive and thought it was hopeless...

Apparently this was known to be a "dangerous" mine site and all workers excavating here were getting paid 20% more than miners at other sites...

I love how they've been optimistic the entire time. So characteristic of South Americans....

They had originally said 90-120 days to drill down and get them out, it's amazing they were able to do it so quickly!

I imagine that they purposely set low expectations for all aspects of the rescue. Underpromise, overdeliver, etc.

i'm sure it's hard to determine the extent of the accident at first and estimate the exact time frame for the rescue, they are 700 metres deep below the ground.

Those best mentally and physically fit went first so they could report back about the conditions of everyone. The last few the were rescued were selected due to issues with their lungs, diabetes, and a few other conditions. I think some of the last few remaining guys have even worse health conditions... The guy who will be removed last was the shift leader and is praised for keeping the group together and alive during the first 17 days when they had no contact... he will go in the Guinness book of records.

Did you all see the guy who's mistress showed up instead of his wife??
