Work in Progress, How does it sounds?

Hi guys, I came with this idea today. Some percs are still missing, there are no Fx, no automation. Just did a quick mix, and some EQ, I am wondering how the mix glues together...

Any advice will be great.
thanks in advance.

It's really too early to judge the mix (from an engineering perspective), though my only advice would be to turn the listening volume down and then judge the levels. The ear is far better at that when the volume is down (or at least at a moderate or speech level). I'm thinking the snare could do with more volume in particular, and the highs could be brought out more.

The piano is nice. The strings at 1:08 are meh. I would either shorten up the attack, or not use the "violins" without the rest of the underlying strings.

String section at 1:32 is nice.

The melody could maybe use a little more organization. Take 1:30 for example, you transition nicely into a bridge/build but it doesn't go anywhere in my mind.

I'd think of it in terms of singing...you reach that crescendo, build some tension and then hit your main melody where you finally get to say what you want to say.

Or not really, that's absolutely fine too. I like music for the ability to really do whatever you want...so those are just some ideas to think about.

Hope some of that was useful and good luck with the track.

Love the bass groove but agree strings around 1.08 seem a little odd, it'll be good to see where this goes...

It sounds pleasant to me, but I'm not one for nitpicking when it comes to mixing. I'm sure there are lots of people who can help you around here with it.

The piano is my favourite element. That snare appeals to me.

The string pad at the beginning could come down a bit (in volume), especially when the kick enters at 0:32.

The piano definitely needs to sound more realistic. Someone recommended Pianoteq, but I'm wondering about the Alicia Keys piano (probably a hefty price tag).

Also your hats - not that there are many - could come in volume.

I like the presence of the bass-line, in the first one over the second, but I really liked the quality of the mix in the second. The drums and percussion could come up substantially. Musically, it still feels like it's missing something to gel it together but I like what you have done so far.

Really really very helpfull all the comments. I defenetily agree I need to change the piano sound (default esx24 steinwey). Right now I am doing some research in piano vsts, (Alicia Keys, New york grand piano, etc. NI line) to purchase one of them.

I agree there is an instrument missing, maybe a big fat wind, brass, with fast attack. I am thiking it could be introduced in the break and then join the main melody in the second part that I still have to develop. But first I need to find the correct piano sound, I dont feel confortable with the actual one.
