Mad for Brad's very straight contest. Grading deadline and Submission info

NEW :

sorry guys, been busy with work.

For submission, send a link to your file via rapidshare. If you could send that link to [email protected] If you could keep the files at 320 kbs mp3 so that they are easier to send to the other judges. The top 6 which should be decided by Tuesday will be asked to submit a little document explaining their track via the grading scheme including what option they used, how they used, what cool things production wise that should be considered. Basically sell your song. If there is a really cool loop that you made yourself, these are things to say. But for right now , just the audio file will do.

If you could have them for me by tonight. Latest Sunday night. I do apologize for those that I could not get back for feedback. I sort of took on my work than I could handle and I've been burning the midnight oil.

/NEW

All tracks are due Oct 27

If there is more than 6, I will try my best to pick the best 6. It was only suppose to be for 6 but since so many seemed interested, I capitulated and allowed more. I will be as fair as I can. Depending on how close the level of skill is, I might allow 8

The final 6 will be judged accordingly. I have been very busy this week so I mashed this together so there might be spelling mistakes but this is basically how it will go down. To those that emailed me for help, I will respond, I've just been extremely busy with work.

Also Let me know if you can read it. My screens are vertical and I have a weird resolution.
Anyways, I really have to haul ass on this project so in case it isn't visible here is a pdf that is large

Fucking awesome!

by the way, how far along is everyone with their tracks?
i still got some ways to go.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Oct-15-2010 07:39:

i'm at the final mixdown and eq stage, some minor adds or deleting some things that have no sense in the mix and will be finished

Posted by Andy28 on Oct-15-2010 07:56:

Still trying to redo my melody.. getting real sick now so prob's end up leaving it unless something comes together pretty soon..
Just made slight change in the arrangement aswell so apart from above I think am done

Posted by Raphie on Oct-15-2010 08:00:

still need to start on the arrangement/melody, but got all the elements there, so should not be too long

Compute slows down whenever I start the project, feels bad man

Hmmm... I sort of understand why, its a cool little progression.

I'm not committing to sending you something, and I know you'll probably pan it anyway given how much shit I give you, but I may see what I can do with it just for fun.

you never entered the competition. And no , I would not of banned you. I am able to be unbiased when I need to. I mean Robby is in it. I have 3 siblings and we are always at each other's neck. I don't hold grudge for more than 1 day.

Wait, so are entries still open or are you restricting it to the original 6?

I didn't want to enter because I don't know if I can definately do it and I didn't want to take someone elses space

Posted by JEO on Oct-16-2010 09:13:

He will choose the best six (and award them?). Entries open - I don't know. It's due 9 days and I'm still struggling with the whole melody and such, but I never held myself back for thinking I might not finish opportunist.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Oct-21-2010 01:51:

The date has changed to the 27th with 2 days of grace if you absolutely need it. That was always my plan but I figured I would scare a few of you to finish your shit. Remember that the mix isn't everything so even if you haven't exactly finished your track as you would like, you could still win if nobody else submits there track.

Anyways, I''ve been very busy this last month and did not help people as much as I wanted but anyways, it is the first of its kind I do and I will be doing others. It was really just an a fun thing as some guy was talking about a battle royal and nobody would step up so I decided to do it.

I will update you on how to submit your tracks. Also, if Kysora wins any spot, he gets an extra 100$ as it appears he is about to be evicted. I know i'm making rules as I go along but the grading is set in stone and the judging will be very unbiased so take the good with the bad.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Oct-21-2010 07:15:

I think i've finished the track, i am in a period where i add/quit some things of the track but end reverting to it's previous state, just want this to end

Posted by Dj_Kile on Oct-21-2010 08:34:

very good news

Posted by Zak McKracken on Oct-21-2010 21:04:

Only if you promise to finally use you Alesis compressor on the drums.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Oct-21-2010 22:35:

oh a challenge. i rather burn that compressor than plugging it in again. it was awful. after buying that i suddenly got more respect for daft punk putting up with that shit. they probably had it modded though.

Whats the deal with this compressor?? Or am i just opening up a can of worms here

Posted by Raphie on Oct-22-2010 07:29:

It's absolute rubbish for anything else than vocalcontrol in a karaoke bar. worst piece of crap gear one can buy.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Oct-22-2010 14:08:

anyone who wants it can pick it up for free at my house.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Oct-24-2010 05:49:

I have 3 days off. I will have a hangover tomorrow but from 5pm till night, and the next 2 days, I can give you feedback on your tracks to make them better. 5 days left.

Posted by sako487 on Oct-25-2010 01:28:

almost done =]

I don't think theres anyway I can finish but I tried (still am actually).

I at least realized by genuinely forcing myself to finish a track for once that my greatest limit is my computer.
I'm working on a fucking quad, have 14 synths open, 4 nexus, like 10-15 fx (WITH using sends) and I simply can't piece the track together the way I want. I have to smart disable just to play certain arrangments but the what I want to arrange it involves entirely too much crap happening at once.
Its not even a ton of sounds its just really layers and random ghost type sounds for atmosphere.

If I bounce sections they will be too long and than I'll max out my ram. This really pisses me off because for once my major issues isn't sound quality or ideas anymore, to get a "strong" sound no matter what I always seem to exert a certain amount of cpu. It doesn't help that I don't have any cpu efficient synths like sylenth, and my main sounds usually come from heavier synths like z3ta/sytrus/ace. I'm really just realizing at this point I fucked up by buying the fastest cpu I could while slacking on soundcard/memory. I'm going to wind up just updating again and hopefully I can get in your next contest. I'm still going to try to finish but unless I can submit it the way I want I really don't want anyone seeing it.

Robby, what soundcard do you have?

It seems like there's something wrong with your setup to have fuck around the way you do.

Posted by Rodri Santos on Oct-25-2010 12:46:

i'm actually mixing down with my living room speakers because i've 40 channels on this project with around 40 fx and automations and the cpu it's at 90% :S too big project for my computer, i see all have the same problem ^^'

Posted by Raphie on Oct-25-2010 12:51:

I pull out, stuck in some other projects that need finishing first.
