Va: Paul Oakenfold Goa Mix 2011 : 2CD - 1st November

quote:
Paul Oakenfold returns with a double CD release based on his 1994 award winning, The Goa Mix. Hailed as one of the worlds leading DJ / remixers by some of the most respected media titles including CNN, BBC, Rolling Stone, BPM, Remix and more. Whether its producing countless film scores including music for Collateral, The Matrix Reloaded and Die Another Day or remixing for artists such as Madonna, Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson, Oakenfold is one of the most versatile and busiest forces in the music scene today. Pauls landmark The Goa Mix was originally broadcast on Radio 1 as an Essential Mix in 1994 and was voted The Best Essential Mix Ever by Radio 1 listeners, also winning a Silver award at the Sony Radio Awards. Available for the first time as an official album release, the mix has never been legally released as a CD or download due to past music licensing issues. The Goa Mix is more than a mix album and could be described as a soundtrack or soundscape to the mid-90s trance / psy-trance scene, a sound pioneered by djs such as Sven Vath. Featuring an uplifting mix of classic dance music from across genres blended seamlessly with emotional film score music from Bladerunner (Vangelis) and Dracula (Killar), The Goa Mix is a legendary piece of dance music history. The Goa Mix 2011 has been totally re-crafted and re-recorded for an album release and is spread across two discs. Stand out tracks include Goldie pres. Metalheadz Inner City Life, Marmion Schoneberg, Grace Skin On Skin, Li Kwan Point Zero, The Infinity Project Stimuli, Man With No Name Sugar Rush, Disco Evangelists De Niro, Salt Tank Eugina and Vangelis stunning Bladerunner Main Titles. The Goa Mix 2011 also includes extra tracks Oakenfold felt were missing from or could add to the original mix including Infected Mushroom Becoming Insane, PPK Resurrection, Barber Adagio For Strings and an exclusive new Paul Oakenfold track, Mia.

What the fuck is going on?

First interesting thing Oakey has done in years... the '94 EM is the stuff of legend.

Posted by kevin shawn on Oct-22-2010 17:10:

This could be good yea....?

Posted by keithos27 on Oct-22-2010 17:15:

would have been better without the whoring of more perfecto tracks (i.e. leave the original TLing in place) but it's better than nothing!

love the write up.. tracks paul thought were missing... lol

How, exactly? You can download the Goa Mix for free online in its entirety.

What the fuck? Infected Mushroom and Astrix?
Nice way to fuck up classic memories.

Posted by Paradox Lost on Oct-22-2010 19:08:

Wait, what?

So, it's basically a retrospective take on his '94 mix, rather than a re-recorded issuing of the exact same set?

Posted by Lews on Oct-22-2010 21:13:

Southern fucking sun does not go in the Goa Mix.

What is this shit?

Posted by Armitage on Oct-22-2010 21:29:

Great business move but yeah, it'll probably be worthless.

It's not exactly difficult to burn the original to disc, and I'd be more inclined to "support" Oakenfold if he didn't whore out Perfecto with unnecessary additions to the original tracklist.

Wow. This is surprising.

But PPK? Come on!

Posted by Joss Weatherby on Oct-24-2010 02:00:

Id rather see a re-do of his 96 EM...

Wait...

http://www.discogs.com/Oakenfold-Pe...o/release/98324

Too bad.

Anyway even if some of the tracks on here are sorta out of place it does go to reinforce my theory that you could recycle dance music from 20 years ago and it'd sound and sell better than the horrible horrible HORRIBLE shit that is made today.

Really, you fucking suck if you still listen to new trance. Seriously.

But you've been able to hear them for sixteen years. The only difference this time around is that you'd be giving Oakenfold money.

Not really, but you seem to eat everything critically, me being probably the biggest Oakenfold fan on this board.. him doing anything is good news to me.. though that doesnt mean its all good.
But you and the other usual suspects always go in looking for something to criticize and point fingers at.. anything NEW happening in the scene that is..

Ive heard the Goa mix plenty of times, and i like it very much.. and i see this as great news as i would imagine the sound quality will be better.. again with the money... you really think this is gonna make more cash for him than a single gig in Vegas ?

No you idiot. If you ever have read my comments here in CD/Review I don't always criticize everything just because it's new.
Releasing an old mix again is not new. Cass & Slide did it back in 2001 on their own Fire label. The difference is that they didn't have to put in their own label tracks just to whore it out.
Especially not shitty tracks as the ones Oakie put into his mix.
I mean. Infected Mushroom. What was he thinking?
