brilliant interview

i saw this on the music discussion forum and figured i would post it here since alot of people seem to be pissed off about the top 100 dj mag list and cheesey music dominating the edm scene

this is one of the best interviews i ever read, i wish more people were as real and stayed true to the genre like activa

p.s its kinda long so when you got a good 10 min of undivided attention please read both parts of the interview if you are tired of hearing shitty pop trance music lol

Lol...he's "real" and "stayed true to the genre".

If you like classic trance, then go listen to it. Otherwise bitching and moaning about the current style of trance isn't going to do anything. You're talking into the wind.

Your brain is that tiny that this is the only response you can EVER come up with.

He has the right to state anything he freaking wants just like you always find it necessary to give your 2cents on artists you've never even tried to give a shot.

He has done a shitload more than YOUR bitching and moaning could EVER do.


Activa sounds like a kick ass guy and I like that he doesn't feel it's necessary to 'censor' himself. A real interview. For once.

AMEN. And besdies this nobody spins sets that build up to anything anymore. It's just bang it out for two hours and that's that. I really miss the filler tracks, and the little subtle ones that build up to a massive bomb. JOC actually still does that pretty well, aside from him that's about it.

Very refreshing to hear someone of his caliber be so honest. Activa has always been one of my favorites and it's so nice to see one of the best producers in the scene taking a stand. I think trance is at a point right now where it will either embrace the mainstream or shift back more towards it's roots. Personally, I hope for the latter!

This was a great read. The trance scene is overloaded with producers who just want to hit homeruns. No one is lookin to just get on base or hit an RBI. I could go on for hours about shit, and I will repeat a lot of what the man said lol. Kind of makes me sick also about how all these Dj mag polls have such a big influence on people and the DJs too!

Screw the mp3 and screw the DJ polls. I hate candy trance. Where are all the producers who used to make shit like this:

Good interview, although I sort of scratched my head when the interview used the term "Shulz McProg."

Last I checked, Markus was sort of the man.

People used to use that term years ago (2004/05-ish) to describe his sound in a bad way, and I never really understood it. I loved the stuff he played back then...tracks by guys like Perry O'neil, Probspot, Mark Otten, Ozgur Can, and obviously Markus' own productions.

I did too!! But it was just still McProg.

My fav is a pic someone did with markus on a big mac.. tiger claw.. perry o niel was the sesame seeds on the bun.

Remember when DJ's used to mix songs together.

I don't listen to trance much anymore but every now and then I get a very nice trance track thrown my way, which reminds me that very good music is still being produced. The comment "not really paying attention to other parts of what made trance what it is" is just him not being able to let go of the good old days. We all do it but it's best to quickly remind yourself that those days are gone and that there really is good music out there right now with a lot of forward thinking producers who keep pushing the boundaries.

yea markus is the man, but his overall sound from 2003-2006 has disapeared
look at most of his live sets 75% of it is his own mixes or mash-ups/edits

i for one loved the old markus sound it was more deep and underground
