If you could change DJ MAG top 100 list?

Yes, we all know its a crap list, but nonetheless most popular. However, lets fantasize a bit.

I would switch the current #2 person and but GE in his place, this guys is freaking solid.

#1 = Digweed

Posted by bas on Oct-29-2010 16:42:

I would get rid of it completely.

make it the top 100 earners from their touring, merchandising, music sales etc.

obviously if youre making the most money, you are doing something right. (Guetta, tiesto, etc)

DJs who actually DJ...and by that i mean not whoring out your productions through out the duration of your set.

John Digweed
Menno De Jong
Danny Tenaglia
Danny Howells
Desyn Masiello
Eelke Kleijn
Roger Sanchez
Markus Schulz
Sasha
Carl Cox

At least it would be more meaningful than the DJMag poll.

Stupid polls... But if I had a choice from DJ's I've seen this year:

01. Markus Schulz
02. James Zabiela
03. Sander van Doorn
04. Funkagenda
05. Richie Hawtin
06. Mark Knight
07. Sasha
08. The Martin Brothers
09. Martin Roth
10. Carlo Lio

Not a bad point
The ONLY problem with this is then, who do you allow to be on the list? Should Madonna be listed on the the next time she makes an album and somehow becomes famous again?

Just people who "spin"?
Then what about these guys with mostly pre-recorded sets? Not that it's bad, but would it count?

ANYWAY, I would put Gareth at #2, i don't like their music but Guetta and D5 deserve what they get (although i don't get why people like D5 sets sinces its basicly just a slow beat....)

I would signify the difference between DJ and Producer, though most of the voters don't understand the difference. So I guess...

I totally agree, I have heard some mean ass tracks that come out during the years that put the mainstream to shame. sigh, but marketing works well.

Thats what is so confusing. They should make specific polls. Should we solely base it on djing? Producing? What they done for the scene (meaning labels/shows and were those labels/shows good or productive THAT year). So much to consider! But then again it does say best DJ.

Posted by -FSP- on Oct-30-2010 21:22:

1.Gabriel & Dresden
2.Deep Dish
3.Daft Punk
4.Sasha & Digweed
5.Paulie D

Do any of those people even make music anymore?

I'm not a huge house fan, I definitely prefer trance. However, "Steal Drums" is a SICK track. I freakin' love that song, it's so addictive. It reminds me of Zelda: Majora's Mask for some reason.

As for my personal list, counting my favorite DJ's and producers of the last year:

1. Ferry Corsten (OUAN compilations are incredible)
2. Markus Schulz (live set at Noc was amazing)
3. Arnej (my current favorite producer)
4. Gareth Emery (his MM set blew me away)
5. Armin (dude's still got it both as producer and DJ)

Awwww come on. Polls are fun.

Posted by Apeattack on Oct-31-2010 14:35:

How about this idea...

The public votes in the DJmag Top 100 poll like usual, but the top 100 artists each get to vote for their five favorite DJ/producers of the year (it cannot be themselves). This way the DJ/producers will vote for their peers. Assume odd situations, like SHM and its individual members both being on the top 100, will be worked out fairly.

Probably too much money involved to get a fair vote by the DJ/producers though. Too tempting to set up backdoor deals for a vote.

Posted by bigperf on Nov-10-2010 03:22:

LET ONLY BLIND PEOPLE VOTE...
they wont know who they are there to HEAR(as opposed to see)

Take blind edm fans drop them off at random shows to listen to the sets, and have them rank their top 5 shows of the year.
if it was practical, this is the best way.

given the swedish house mafia tracklist from halloween vegas, tell me that one of the TA bedroom DJ's couldnt make just as good of a set...

Nope, they wouldn't have access to those tracks.

Ohh lol I missed that.

But you can say that about most dj's. Not many dj's can pull off what Luke does because he is very technical, even if you gave them the tracks and loops and vocals and edits. Not many dj's like him though.

who needs a top 100?

maybe the "DJ" definition needs to change.
