I know eco is not a fan, and des told me he'd fire me if I mention the name skrillex to him one more time... but this kid is nuts, yo. He's had pretty much the entire beatport top 10 since 10/22.
His music is pretty dirty imo. I did a little research and wrote a little article on the glow blog. you can find it here
i just think the dude is mad versatile and sick wit it. and im a trance guy, but this shit is just too ill for me to dislike.

Plus, don't tell me that you think this guy produced it all? That second track?... Really?
are you talking about those EC Twins that "brought house music to LA"?
Yeah I was randomly at a club where they were playing. It was terrible, Like abercombie and fitch on CDJs. ::Shivers::

Consider yourself lucky, some things, once seen can never be unseen. Luckily since then I have found a bunch of LA's underground parties.
Kadomony
That four tet track is dope.

honestly dude? you and zack are 2 people on the EXTREMELY short list of those with whom I enjoy debating on these forums. Why? because you aren't hating, you are asserting a claim and using calm, logical arguments to back that claim.
/praise
I get what you're saying with how this dude popped out of nowhere and didn't necessarily go through the 'blood, sweat, tears' aspect of trying to make it. Then again, when I wikipedia'd him, I found that this guy has been playing hardcore and punk music for a long time. His band was on the warped tour. he was rocking shows, putting in the blood, sweat and tears... i think. unless his wiki has been faked by the machine. I wouldnt put it past them. because you're right, the music PR, hype, 'branding' machine could put some hairspray and an earring on a crow, auto-tune its 'ckaaww ka-kaawww' and make a platinum album (hey, I think I may be on to something!!)
as far as the whole thinking a guy is sick because he had the whole top 10... no, thats not why i think he is sick. I think he's sick because of the utter crackiness of his beats, even if im not the biggest fan of electro, i just respected the random crack bass insanity. but i was also reeeaaallly feeling that ambient-type uplifting-ish stuff.
whether or not he actually produced it? who knows. Given he's from LA and that the whole hipster culture is more or less "in", cause lets be honest... it is to a degree. If enough people hate on hipsters, then they're style must be of importance. cause no one hates on something that's unimportant...
back to my point... given he's from LA and has this weirdo long hair and glasses and makes electro and he's an LA cool guy... I feel like that really IS an image the machine could have put out. who knows.
Wait... there's more, real quick
on to the topic of feeling like people dont work hard and get noticed off nothing... that fucking pisses me off... I used to want to be a rapper. I wasnt bad at it either. But i was a jew from the burbs and the way rap music was, i had to be a G'd up hustler to make it. So I went out and became a G'd up hustler. I moved and was around those moving a LOT of this and that. I kept rapping. I event got a meeting with Pat Moxey. he loved the whole "Burbs to the Block concept" I put in my blood sweat and tears for mad long. And what happens? myspace blows up and any cock sucker with a decent lyric can be heard without doing SHIT. and now??? Rapping isnt about how deep you run or even how conscious your rhymes are... its about how many bow ties and square shaped, thick framed glasses you own. What the fuck happened?

Yeah....LOL. Such a great point. God, I saw Manufactured Superstars open for Markus in Vegas in maybe February. They were terrible- which made me appreciate Markus' set even more. As soon as he came on the entire atmosphere changed. I met up with a bunch of TAs there and I wasn't the only one displeased with their set - in fact, quite a few TAs actually LEFT THE CLUB because they thought the music was THAT bad and then returned when they heard markus was coming on.

If ATB got raped by Deadmau5, Skrillex would be the offspring. I'm not saying he's bad. That's just what he sounds like.

Well I take that as a big compliment! I don't wanna be seen as the downer or sipper on Haterade..
My perspective is really unique in that I'm currently neck-deep in this whole music machine. I'm wrapping up work on my artist album for Armada; not a day goes by without 5-10 emails back and forth about one of the songs, or one of the promotion ideas, or one of the collaborations. Everything's very strategic and because I'm finishing up my last year of college, there have been offers for a lot (and I mean A LOT) of high profile gigs and even some 3-4 week tours I've had to say no to. This is all coming after 6-7 of EXTREMELY hard work, which luckily here in NYTA I can say many of you have been able to witness.
It's like an actor who watches Entourage and then understands how the entire process works: the good and the bad. Being behind the scenes and in contact with so many producers and DJs in the scene, which is a really small world when you really look at it, a lot has turned me off to the very machine-like nature of this all.
The bands and musical artists from the past that I look up to paved their careers by plugging away at it for years, putting out immense quality and boundary-breaking music, and then maybe later selling out. Now, I look at young artists like myself who, with a series of publicity moves, and a few tunes paid for by the label and produced by someone else, can be world famous in 10 months. It's really quite simple, but still sad..
It's like if Norman Rockwell or Pablo Picasso met Andy Warhol who, because he was at the right time and place, got famous painting Campbell's soup cans..

I honestly don't know much about him---other than he has a lot of top 10 beatport tracks & he's under the Mau5's label. However, he will be here in Charlotte on Monday, it's a free show with open bar so I may go check him out.

I don't hate Dubstep, but I haven't heard anything so awesomely amazing that would make me want to go seek out more info about the genre and related artists. Anyone want to change my mind?

I listen to A LOT of electro and dubstep. I dj and promote it.
this Skrillex guy is previously the lead singer of the band From First to Last.
There is a bit of bias on my end as I hate this guy to begin with, but examinig his music, you can't help but note as Sir Eco did, that he is weak on the production side, he's totally positioned himself to take advantage of the current "dirty electro/dubstep" trend.
Basically, I see this as him having a very good PR firm to help get him out there after jumping into a trendy genre.
You can hear the Deadmau5 production elements in his music that either Joel helped with or Skrillex actually jacked from him, which is funny because he's signed to the Mau5's label.
I mean, I like the Noisia remix of that big EP that's dominating beatport, but you can still hear how hollow the overall production is. So the track I like, is lacking. This is dissappointing for the amount of popularity he's getting, which Im basing off of his current/recent USA tour with Deadmau5 playing to thousands of people, who are obviously buying up that perfectly timed release on beatport.

I love dubstep but the stuff you posted Ravi is the type of music that annoys me the most.
There is way better dubstep that isn't cookie cutter
