Fruity loops question

I'm using a VSTi instrument through fruity loops, however when I set up my pattern I cannot get it to play sound I want.
It basically plays default sound through the VSTi (e.g Clap instead of a snare).
Does anybody know how to change the sounds that play through a VSTi?
