-- question in regards to synths
question in regards to synths
so i have finally decided that i am going to get the nord lead 3
it was a long hard decision to make, but it was between that and the prophet 08
it will be my first synth ever, and my first major purchase as far as anything studio related goes..
so i was wondering, i would i be able to just plug this puppy into my computer and start playing with it within my daw?
or would i need to buy a soundcard and a amp to get it going, i dont have neither.
Not sure if it supports usb, so you may need inputs from a sound card and a midi output. You wont need an amp.. Am sure some 1 on here can inform you better, a could be wrong, dont own any hardware.

| Originally posted by Eric J Do not assume that any synth is going to have a USB interface, especially synths not manufactured in the last 5 years. If you want to use most hardware synths (with the exception of recent workstations synths), you are going to have to interface with it the old school way, with MIDI and direct audio out. Oh and don't expect to be able to control your outboard hardware as easily as you control your software. You are going to need to learn about MIDI. Channels, ports and CC messages are how you control most outboard hardware. The only USB-equipped ones I can recall off the top of my head and the Virus TI and the Little Phatty and a few newer workstation synths. The LP USB is really only for software updates, you cant control the synth through the USB interface. The "Total Integration" of the Virus is unique to that unit, do not expect to find it on the majority of non-workstation type synths. |
fuck i havnt really dabbled to much into the world of midi yet.
really looking for something where i can plug in and go.
thnx for the info eric.

if you have to buy an hardware synth, buy analog, it is really useless buy a virtual analog synth now days, you could take a Komplete 7 instead
that's my opinion dude

I picked up a Nord Rack 2X the other week, had sounds coming out of it into Live after a few minutes, its not so bad
Different i suppose if you dont already have an interface with MIDI or audio inputs...
What DAW are you running?
