ProTools 9

Looks pretty sweet!

Just from looking at it, it makes it more viable for music production, adding more tracks, and automatic delay compensation...More portable too, since you just need an iLok as opposed to an interface. Guess I need to scrounge some cash together.

Have they improved MIDI-based production and editing yet? The last time I used PT (LE7), MIDI was ridiculously under-featured and not very user-friendly at all.

Nice to see that it finally works with any interface, a move they should have made years ago IMO. I think their business model of offering the crippled software version coupled with lame-ass interfaces (talking about the sub-HD versions here, of course) hurt their image more than it helped it.

The short answer is no. Native is a great development but until they address the midi functionality on PTHD it will never truly be a viable option for EDM.

That's too bad. VST support would also be nice for EDM producers and I'm surprised that PT doesn't have it by now - that would make a LOT of its users happy and probably gain them a much larger market share. I also just noticed that there doesn't seem to be a 64-bit version, although I would imagine that's not too far away. Oh well....

Anyway, here's a vid:

you are going to have a hard time recording if you don't have an interface.

Uh-oh, that means Storyteller is slowly taking over....

Whoa... This is the first bit of good news about PT in a while. I dont' know why they released new AVID interfaces since they'll probably suck.

I think at least they're on the right track now, I'd consider buying it if I needed PT compatability.

Well I still have my MBox so I'm set there...I'm using PT for production (8 is way better for production than 7 btw) so it will be nice to just plug in the iLok and set to work.

I think they released new interfaces becuase sales had dropped off on the old ones, and there were so many of them that it was affecting the resale value which again caused less sales for Digi.

The new interfaces do have good developments and they're going to work very well and be incredibly stable. The other issue is tech support - digi are going to hang up the phone laughing if you call them saying you're have technical issues using PT with another interface.

Finally, the other reason is wank factor.....

There's a serious amount of twats who absoluteley expect to see a PTHD rig when they walk in to a studio, otherwise "it's not a proper studio". It's a sad reality but I know some studio managers who stumped up the extra coin just to get that business and it worked.

^^^ I meant the new LE interfaces. The new HD ones are apparently actually OK. But the new LE ones just look exactly the same only uglier.
