Fake Sennheiser Products.... HD25 Coiled Cords...

Heads Up...

Beware of fake/counterfeit/aftermarket Sennheiser products. I learned the hardway. A couple years ago I bought some HD25 II. The cord was too small, so I bought a replacement coiled cord from Hard To Find Records. I purchased many vinyls from them in years past, so I didn't think anything of it. When I got the cord, which I paid a lot for, I noticed that the audio had some degradation. I didn't think anything of it.

Well, that cord went bad several weeks ago. I called Sennheiser and purchased a replacement cord from them last week. When I received the cord, I noticed it was VERY different than the one I got from HTFR. The cable was thicker, heavier, and most importantly, the connectors were different. But the big difference came when I heard the sound. The quality was amazing. There was a HUGE difference. Needless to say, I paid the same amount buying a legit quality product direct from the manufacturer, than a buying a fake/aftermarket product from a 3rd party.

Lesson learned. Buy replacement parts directly from Sennheiser. Even Sennheiser warns you on their website.

Hmm.. I've purchased coiled cables for the HD25's... Honestly forgot where I purchased them from lol. I didn't notice the lack in quality, if it's not much trouble could you please take a picture of the HTFR ones? Just want to compare em to the ones i got!

HTFR is the problem. It's a pile of shite and I'd never recommend buying anything from that site. Fake vinyls and all sorts.

Check out PSSL. They're a Sennheiser dealer. Another place you can check is Apex Audio. They're in Orange county. That sucks bro. It's amazing how much fake gear is outhere.

FYI, if you or if you know someone who uses EAW Speakers, Beware!!!! There's a company in China that's making fake ones. Basically the entire EAW speaker line. Both the real ones and the fake ones look alike but sound completely different. They're also making fake parts too, and some have found their way into the states.

i thought cables don't make a difference in sound quality

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Nov-11-2010 01:07:

they don't but if the connectors are dodgy, then perhaps it might. All cables are pretty much the same and get all their copper from the same place. But ya , all that gold tip silver tip bs is not going to make your audio sound better.

Senns comparison
Here's some pictures so you can compare them your self.

On the left is the legit cable.

Notice the pins on the left are round posts and the one on the right is flat. The left one (red) is the legit one.

The one with a straight tip is the legit one. Notice the cable is thicker, it has a gold tip, and it also has a screw on tip for the 1/4" adapter.

The one on the bottom has that little block that separates the cables. That's the legit one. The one on the top doesn't have it.

The one on the bottom is the legit one. The cable is thicker.

It's the quality on how they're built and connectors do make the difference. As Brad pointed out cable is cable. It's all made from copper. However some cable companies are different from the other. Some pay particular attention to thickness of the individual strains, how many strains are in a single pair. Also how good the protection of the jacket per single pair.

As a Brad pointed out too. Silver plated, nickle plated, gold plated connectors have no difference between them. It's a way for a company to make more money by sugar coating a certain product.

sweet, thanks for posting the pics
thankfully i don't have the knock offs... those plugs are horrid, as well as the non-threaded adapter :S

Been a while since I've been on here but all seems to going well. I was in Berlin and London enjoy the finer things in life (techno) ..

Anyway, would you consider sending Sennheiser the pictures and asking them whether or not over the years they've changed the coiled cable they've used on the headphones?

I only ask because I don't know whether or not they might have changed the coiled headphones and you actually got a legit pair but they've since stepped their quality up??

Just a thought...

HTFR is known for selling their own bootleg records and calling them the legit ones. Avoid them.

Who gives a shit. Not everyone here has been here for years on end waiting for some new threads to pop along once every half year.

For those who haven't seen it before it's a useful heads up.
Don't bother posting with useless repost shite unless it's warranted.

Thanks..

Just a heads up. HTFR's replacement ear pads for the HD25's are knockoffs as well. I noticed the sound isolation of the headphones was pretty much gone with the fakes...check the picture below. Backside of the pad should have a thin rubber coating (left), the knockoffs (right) dont.

Nice find. I've purchased vinyl from this company before, now I wonder if those were knock off copies? I'll have to go through and check them. Thanks for the heads up.

No problem. Brutal of them to be charging OEM prices for 3rd party shit. Never shopping there again.

HTFR are infamous for selling dodgy shit gear and records. "rare pressings" of simply downloaded tracks.
