Accessing the PS3 Hard drive through networking and Windows 7?

Anyone know to? I don't want to stream, I don't want to media share, I just want to take media files FROM my computer and move them to the PS3 harddrive without putting them on a jumpdrive or DVD to bring them over.

I've tried many things, can't access it through the IP via explorer, i've pinged it with replies.

I just want to see the damn drive and drag and drop movies over so it's locally stored! Why is this so hard?!

Thanks

And so help me god if someone says buy a Mac!

I don't know about storing the movies on your PS3, but I have an external where I stream my movies from on the PS3 using a program called Vuze.

Don't know if you heard of it, or if you have tried it, or if its what your looking for. But I just drag my movies to it, and open up my PS3 and just watch my movies from there.

Hope this helps, if not sorry hahaha

Also if you have an external hard drive, you can hook it up to your PS3, but just make sure you properly format it so the PS3 recognizes it once you plug it in.

I believe the PS3 recognizes FAT32 format.

Hope this helps

I use Vuze as well, but that's media sharing and he's not asking about that.

I would curious if this is possible too, although I do run a Mac so the answer may be different for me.

If I recall correctly - you cant access the PS3 drive over the network. You can plug in a USB-drive and copy files onto it using the PS3 user-interface. But Sony gets all DRMy and likes to control what you can/cant copy, and there are some save-games that you can't copy.

But, if its just movies/etc you have saved there - you should be able to copy them using the PS3 UI onto an externally connected USB device.

This is what I thought....

I just felt like a 80GB HD in there was going to waste sitting empty lol...

Wanted to use it as another storage device for pictures and movies that would be easy for anyone to use without worrying about streaming etc...

I've seen that vuze, thanks for the link, that's something i'm definitely interested in around the holidays. I'm thinking about building a separate media tower to essentially store and stream all media around the house.

Due to the PS3's security measures (much like that of the iOS devices) you cannot access the file systems directly through an explorer. There may be options to "jailbreak" or similar actions, depending on how brave you're feeling.
