41,500 plays in 10 hours

It's no secret that Joel has blown up to epic proportions but every once in a while he does something that makes me shake my head in near disbelief - example:

This morning he uploaded a 4min sample of a new track he's been hammering away at and in approximately 10hrs it's been listened to more than 41,500 times! Almost unfathomable!

Here's the track:

Deadmau5 - Get In The Cart, Pig. by fuckmylife

Ya ya, ball-washing - whatever.

I just want to congratulate the guy for achieving his dreams. I'm quite envious haha.

Plus, I know this thread will generate some ridiculous replies - so, flame on!

it is amazing what he has achieved in a very short period of time. That being said....the sample doesn't seem all that inspired to me....the first 3/4 of it sounds very common.

I don't disagree that he is talented....but talent alone does not get you to where he is.

Talent + Brilliant Marketing + Right Time + Right Place + Extremely Hard Work. That's pretty much what it takes.

I like where the track ends up going. Always respect Joel's production skills; he's got er' figured.

This.

By advertising this track as something to "one-up strobe" he set some pretty high expectations - can't say I'm crazy about this one, considering there's no real melody or lead chord after the drop, but no doubt the finished product will be a lot better.

I agree the end of the track is good.....and I could see it getting people moving...but the first 3/4 would put me to sleep....maybe that was his plan.

We should just have a "the deadmau5 thread"

Another "way to go deadmau5" thread? aren't there like 41,500 of them? I like his tunes as much as the next guy, but come on...

It's funny when people use his first name like they grew up with him.

I must admit pretty damn epic beat towards the end of the song with the congo sounds. Loving the old school beat

Gimmick

For other uses, see Gimmick (disambiguation).
In marketing language, a gimmick is a unique or quirky special feature that makes something "stand out" from its contemporaries. However, the special feature is typically thought to be of little relevance or use. Thus, a gimmick is a special feature for the sake of having a special feature. It began, however, as a slang term for something that a con artist or magician had his assistant manipulate to make appearances different from reality. Such things as the manipulating of a gaming wheel led to the idea of a "gimmick" being used. [1]

In marketing, product gimmicks are sometimes considered mere novelties, and not really that relevant to the product's functioning, sometimes even earning negative connotations. However, some seemingly trivial gimmicks of the past have evolved into useful, permanent features. According to the OED, the word is first attested in 1926, defined in the Wise-Crack Dictionary by Main and Grant as "a device used for making a fair game crooked".

Finding a successful gimmick for an otherwise mundane product is often an important part of the marketing process. For example, toothbrushes are often given various gimmicks, such as bright colors, easy-grip handles, or color-changing bristles so they appear more exciting to consumers. This is often done when trying to appeal to children or excitable adults, who often get more excited about the gimmick than the product. Electronic toys and hand-held devices are often appealing because of a gimmick that they offer.

Major product features which are poorly designed become known as gimmicks to the product users. Plastic devices often suffer from weak structural components or fragile construction, leading to deforming and cracking of the over-strained and poorly engineered mechanisms. This leaves the owner with the basic functions of the item and the gimmick disabled or, in the case of very cheaply produced products, the gimmick broken completely from the main body of the item.

That being said, it's a good thing for a Canadian producer to be so big in the world...

And his show productions are pretty cool...

Good for him. He deserves this level of success. Even though I'm not a big fan of Deadmau5, I must admit his productions and live show are top notch.

it's kind of a cosmic-scale joke. i wouldn't be surprised if holden would play this track in one of his sets these days.

I dread the day 10 years from now everyone is going to be wearing Mau5 heads for Halloween like Daft Punk masks, oh wait they already are.

why does he deserve this level of success? Everyone says that but no one ever explains why he deserves it.

true, no one even knows how he got there(no one i know, or have read online about), if he did a lot of back-stabbing in the industry, or if he did really good things for people in the industry in exchange to get ahead(he did have his hand on many productions from djs in the industry). im quite curious myself how industry people work. there is a huge story that will never be told.(truthfully anyways) with all these non-disclosure stuff going down. there is no way that he just simply started rising on his own accord. the ammount of connections and connected people he knew is really mind-blowing, like touring with tommy-lee dj aero way before he even got big, that must have been good training to when he started going on tour himself. its a little fascinating to me, as i produce and dj myself, and im sure 100 other kids and adults reading this post as well. i think i remember seeing his synth work in the earliest version of fl studio, i was a kid then so i might be wrong. im sure he has a wicked story, that i would love to read.

what they're saying though is chem, his productions are very high-quality anyone can see that, so hence thats why people say that he deserves his top status. also, he works very hard, touring is so exhausting and could be like torture at times(example, flying to a different city the next day at another part of the world and doing a gig could really take a toll). in addition, all the time in the industry he has spent working as well on different levels. /cockrub
