Please Help A Fellow TA!! =)

Hey what's up everybody? Been a loongg time since I've been on the boards here but I'm reaching out to see if any fellow TAs might be willing to help me out.

I'm in a DJ contest to win a gig on "The Groove Cruise" out in Miami. The winner gets the opportunity to spin with Dirty South, Funkagenda, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Darude to name a few. Needless to say, the opportunity is HUGE and could really use any help that I can get!

Currently I'm ranked #2 in the contest and any votes from you could put me into that #1 spot!

You failed to show any knowledge of Martin Roth given your track selection as an OPENER and ... well, that alone is enough. Because i could go on.

Not trying to be disrespectful, but issues were very apparent that night. Especially in that crucial timeslot. But I don't necessarily blame you.

Welcome to TA. This place will test your will as a local DJ. So good luck. Don't take anything personal. We, not just I, can be pretty f'n evil sometimes. For a recent example, ask Max Vangeli.

ehh this wasn't a matter of testing anyones intelligence lol... I used to visit these boards regularly several years back under a different account but never really posted on the boards.

Obviously no one has to vote....I was just reaching out to ppl that were willing to acknowledge someone that is dedicated to succeeding in this industry. I'm fortunate to have enough people supporting me to have earned me the #2 spot. They know my passion for what I do and I don't want their efforts to go to waste. If you haven't heard my music, you can always check out the mix before voting. And if you haven't heard my name you will eventually....I'm dedicated to building one for myself in this industry. Not many people are willing to dedicate a year going to Digital Music Production school so this isn't just something I do as a hobby.

@DaveT Understandably if you felt my set was inconsiderate of the other DJs i apologize for that. I have a specific sound that I go for and since I've gotten back into the scene I stick to it. When I'm booked I am very clear of the style that I play...

All openers do, but the smarter ones (and veteran ones) fluctuate their style accordingly until they become the headliner.

One of the reason I don't post on here anymore. People are so biased and judgmental. I thought it was all about the music? I understand people have their own taste and preference, but when people start bashing you for it, it becomes a problem.

You're a grown ass man dude. Seriously, can you not take criticism?

When you are a Dj you are subject to criticism. It comes with the territory because you become a "public figure." Look at the Deadmau5 thread look at the Max Vangeli thread look at the Luxor thread. All of those could have been EASILY avoided if they would have accepted the criticism instead of crying back and making it worse. How hard is it to roll you're eyes and just not say anything?

Nerologic, I've never seen either of those articles. Good links! The RA article is awesome because it's like they are literally reading my mind with all the stuff I've posted about the importance of openers over the years here on TA.

Good openers are such a rare breed these days. Openers are booked way too much on them purely knowing people or being able to get a few people to come. But this is all at a sacrifice int he quality of music. I remember when there was a time where there were often reviews on here that discussed how awesome every part of the night was. From the openers to the headliner and, if there was a closer, to the closer. We rarely see that type of stuff anymore because so many clubs. Especially here in LA, which has a tendency to book horrible, out of place openers that it's not even worth following anyone as an opener down here. That's not to say that DJs who are versatile and would make great openers don't exist down here. I am sure there plenty who would be great if given the shot. But with the politics here, that's a big challenge.

SF has great openers like Taj, Alain, Syd Gris, etc, DJs who all can really adjust their style depending on the night. I honestly don't know of any openers in LA who really have that ability. But, again, I'm sure they do exist. Just they don't get any type of the proper attention they should be getting.

when i caught Alain opening I had one of those moments where i said to myself "this is what an opener is supposed to sound like"

i've experienced the same thing in NY with the likes of zach roth, brad miller, and alter image.

The difference between the great openers and the others is they took in feedback, adjusted, learned...they evolved. It's why they can open for house or trance and play the perfect style to suit them.

If there's a nice, proper opener for a headliner and the headliner shows up early, you'd be shocked how much they actually take notice and mention how the opener is playing great. If I hear that feedback, I usually be sure to tell the opener if they didn't hear. It's like a big highlight for them!
