Techno

I am really starting to get into techno now. I love the fast hard beats. There is nothing like it in a club. I have been listening to ben sims, andreas kremer, dj rush, chris liebing and even mauro picotto. What would you call this style? Swedish? Do these djs ever come to montreal?
Anyone recommend any good techno?

oh man where to start!???

the essentials..

montreal mix sessions 5 - CD 1 mixed by Tiga
DE9 - Closer to the edit - Richie Hawtin (more on the minimal side)
DE9 - Richie Hawtin (slightly harder than the above)
dave clake - world service (CD 1)

the new stockholm mix sessions by adam beyer is also worth mentionning..

imho though, good techno CDs are few and far between though... the live mixes are where its at, try to find mixes of these guys, or others like marco bailey, marco carola, ben sims, misstress barabara (obviously), stewart walker, dave clarke, laurent garnier, etc..

as for locals check out at techno.ca

fyi both, mauro picotto, ben sims have both been to montreal this past summer..

where did ben sims come? I am also curious about mauro. He spins alot of chris liebing and techno that is pretty similar. So what would you call the genre he spins? I am really not a fan of hawtin. I know he is probably the most innovative dj on the planet, but i just cant get into his acid/minimal style.. its just so bland. Mind you i have never heard him live.

ben sims was at aria.
christian smith was at aria and he's comming back the same day as cream party, at aria so this will own

as what you mention mostly chris lieabing, and picotto this guys spin what i call hard techno. richie hawtins, dave clarke, miss b, and all the ones slphyn mentiones are what i call the techno (normal? standard?) techno, even ben sims, is not as hard as liebing.

this is my opinon and well it might not be good cause im new to techno and well i got mostly into the hard part.

and BIGGY bring chris liebing to aria!! he will destroy the place!!

like i said this is my opinion and many will desagree cause im a newbie :P

Can someone correct me if I say that Christian Smith and Ben Sims are funky techno?

also check Billy Nasty and mostly Danilo Vigorito, both those guys were awesome at Aria

richie hawtin would be minimal techno though (as would stewart walker, etc.).. if you listen to his sets/CDs they're quite different than misstress or dave clarke.. for example, you'll never hear a techno anthem comming from him

Ben Sims is probably the one who has the most "abilities" with turntables

Mauro Picotto is definitely techno now. At least 80% of his set was at swirl. And I have had a number of his past sets that were all techno. And i always thought derric carter was a house dj.. could very well be wrong though.
