very "scorey". not much to get excited about. sadly, i'm rather disappointed. believe TRON deserved more of a futuristic, synthesized score than the one presented, instead, it turned out to be a rather generic. maybe it will grow on me

i listened to the samples on itunes... not bad. it's a soundtrack, not an electronic dance album so it should be "scorey".

in what way did you feel it deserved a more "futuristic" sound jupiterone?

I had been listening to Daft Punk for almost ten years before I met them at the 101 Coffee Shop in Hollywood one morning in November 2007. I sat down not knowing what to expect, and I was immediately struck by their deep knowledge and love of film and particularly the sanctity in which they held Steven Lisberger�s TRON. It quickly became clear to me that this had the potential to be an exciting collaboration. With topics that ranged from Bernard Hermann to Wendy Carlos, the discussion revealed a shared desire to create a score that blended classic orchestral themes with an electronic minimalism in a way that had never been done before. I walked out knowing that there was an opportunity here to create something truly special. Now, three years later, we are in the final stages of mixing and the result has truly exceeded my high expectations. Because the score was developed in parallel with the production of the film, I�ve had the opportunity to live with it for over a year now and it never fails to thrill and inspire me as we near the finish line. I am excited for you to experience Daft Punk�s first contribution to the world of film scoring � I have a feeling it won�t be their last.

More than twenty five years ago I inspired Daft Punk with the original TRON. With this score, that inspiration has come back to me in full measure. The TRON cycle now continues. The disc turns. Daft Punk has increased TRON: Legacy�s bandwidth,
adding depth to the low end, the Soul, and expanding the high end, the Spirit. They have decompressed the TRON universe and created a new form of cyber Opera. This is the next part of the storyline, a new benchmark � this is �Tronscendency.�
Perhaps others will one day want to return to TRON with their own talents and new technologies. When they do it will be because this music made them feel being a �User� means creating beyond the limits of every program.

well just because it's a combination of daft punk and tron. i honestly expected something just a bit more futuristic. my opinion is shit anyway as i haven't completely listened to it all. will have to see how it fits into the film itself

Pretty good. Nothing mind-blowing tho.

i think blade runner would be the model of futuristic soundtracks


honestly though you cant expect that from a disney hollywood blockbuster in 2010, scored by crowdpleasing megastars

will it be epic? probably. but im guessing its just simply epic and 'futurey', grand, entertaining, and heavily themed, like the film. I'm guessing what j1 meant is that the score is very themey - futurey, but not futuristic.

obviously i havent seen the film, but im guessing it wont exactly be as big in the departments of soul or real drama or pure storytelling, or true futurISM.

It will probably be polished, efficiently and predictably entertaining.

Does the movie claim anywhere to try and be such things? FFS its a sequel to Tron, the butt of many many many many many many MANY jokes on bad movies.



While I agree that Blade Runners soundtrack was ahead of its time, well... probably in its own time, it was more or less not a product of the movie if you listen to Vangelis's other works for scores, including things as benign as Japanese nature documentries...

Also putting Blade Runner and Tron in the same category is a diservice. Tron is a fantasy, Blade Runner is scifi. Tron and Avatar could go together if you call it sci-fi.

Tron 2 looks to be an action packed movie with a sound track that fits it, traditional or not, and a group like Daft Punk doing the sound track I think is a wonderful thing, especially considering that they place it as one of their main inspirations.

And faulting Daft Punk for being "megastars" is sorta BS. They are an EDM group... Being a megastar in EDM is like being (and I got this from a horrible movie on Comedy Central today) the smartest kid with down syndrome!

No, and that's my point.

This is why there should be no disappointment.

The soundtrack for the film sounded better than what came on the CD. It sounded more electronic (in my opinion).

Saw the movie last night. I'm not too impressed. Maybe it's all the 80's nostalgia, but there were a lot of cheesy, long, boring scenes. The virtual young Jeff Bridges looked lifeless and unconvincing, like a video game character.

The soundtrack was cool in some parts, overbearing in others, where it really took away from the scene. Nothing really blew me away. Both Inception and The Social Network had far better scores this year.

Also, IMAX 3D is garbage; I much prefer Digital 3D where fast action is actually smooth, and the 3D is more pronounced.

saw the movie and thought it was pretty good.

thought the soundtrack rocked in the context of the movie - had a strong nod the the early 80's origins of tron and did what a good soundtrack should do. shat on horners avatar soundtrack lol. (just as tron legacy shat on avatar as a movie)

I also saw the movie this weekend and must say the soundtrack worked really well. Probably among my top soundtracks for 2010 (Inception was birlliant as well). The movie itself is highly uneven IMHO but the art design in cooperation with the soundtrack was marvelous.

Oh and I definitely got the feeling Daft Punk was channeling some of that Vangelis stuff from Bladerunner.

this soundtrack is BAD-ASS
