About ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL:
As the worlds most famous outdoor electronic music event, UMF has won Best Music Event by the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA) from 2005 2010, Best International Dance Music Festival by the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2008 and Best Festival by the Village Voice Media New Times consecutively five years running from 2005 through 2009. Originally created as a pure EDM (electronic dance music) festival in 1999, UMF has grown through the years to present not only the genres hottest, biggest and best headline artists (The Prodigy, The Chemical Brothers, Tisto, deadmau5, David Guetta, Underworld, Moby, Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Paul van Dyk, Armin Van Buuren, Erick Morillo, and Paul Oakenfold, to name a few), but also crossover headline bands that incorporate EDM elements in their music and have a history or new beginning in the EDM community and culture (The Cure, The Killers, The Black Eyed Peas, Santogold, The Ting Tings, The Bravery). In 2010, UMF was recognized as the fourth Top Grossing Concert by Pollstars mid-year issue and saw more than 100,000 attendees coming from 68 countries and territories and all 50 U.S. states and Puerto Rico. In addition to the annual Miami festival, UMF continues expanding internationally this year with UMF Ibiza and UMF Brasil in Sao Paulo on November 6. The sold-out festival featured Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, Moby, Above & Beyond and more. In 2010, UMF had its most successful year with two sold-out days drawing over 100,000 people, featuring more than 350 international leading electronic music performers, DJs and cutting-edge bands alongside Miami regional artists. With the continued support of the biggest artists in the world, UMF is leading the charge of whats hot in live music for North American festivals as the first major U.S. festival of the year.

holy ghost is kinda cool, but the line up does suck.. I can't believe WMC is split up over this garbage.
Posted by Paradox-SJ on Dec-16-2010 00:30:
What sucks about THIS line up? Seriously....it looks like a fun times in miami...and it sure beats a day at the office.
Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Dec-16-2010 00:50:
oh come on, this lineup seems like it would do better as p4k fest than ultra. it's not an edm-centric lineup.
there isn't anything truly impressive here to me. what names stick out to you??? claude and carl cox?..yeah that's great but these are guys who run the festival circuit a lot.
Posted by civicstyle on Dec-16-2010 00:54:
Okay line-up. Funny, people will COMPLAIN over ANY line-up if it doesn't include their super-sub-genre DJ on it.
Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Dec-16-2010 01:04:
^ And people will always complain about that, too.
If members of a music forum with a heavy focus on EDM don't 'complain' about these things and don't ask for more, then who ever will? I think it's important to recognize that people on a website like this will never be satisfied with a lineup just because Tiesto and/or Deadmau5 are there.
Also, let's not forget that people with pull in certain promoting organizations are either actively or passively involved in websites like tranceaddict. I witnessed it first hand with events as recent as this years EDC. People on TA complained about the initial lineup, saying things like "not convinced...wish they would bring out people like x, y, and z" and then a month later somebody comes back "we took your opinions into consideration...we bring you x and z" etc etc etc

I understand what you are saying. But, just like every announcement, people COMPLAIN.

Pretty interesting lineup! Great to see Royksopp on there... You all are forgetting that this is a Phase 1 lineup, and the fact that Armin has a tent there celebrating 500 episodes of ASOT, with whatever killer lineup he puts together for that.. Not bad..

i definitely think there are some great names there.
but with the whole hype up of UMF after the WMC split, and after selling out 2 days to 100,000 people and bumping it up to 3 days.. i was really expecting a HOOOLLLY SHIEEEETTT line up.
i'm sure the next announcements will be solid and i hope most of the acts i want to see are on either fri/sund.

This is the most of the lineup that they have ever announced before January. Normally limited pre pre sales go on sale right about now with no mention of lineup.
And Phase I line which is usually released towards the end of January would normally have 10 people on it, if that.
This year, everyone is competing so they have to announce more. Dont expect the crazy lineup until Mid march in the final release of the lineup.

Not bad for Phase One, but it looks like I'll be fine skipping Ultra again this year unless there's a big surpirse upcoming. I would love to be at ASoT 500 but it's gonna depend on the price of single day tix. Other than that, I just feel that money is better spent at other parties, or resting up for other parties, haha. In any case, Ultra definitely knows what they're doing. With Tiesto, Guetta, Armin, DeadMau5, and Benassi, they've already locked up the 5 biggest draws in EDM, imo. That will guarantee another huge year at Ultra.
