Red face Tron .. And Daft Punk Soundtrack

So.. I saw this film yesterday. I enjoyed it, same with the Daft Punk tunes in it, I can just picture them playing some of those tunes live. Massive!

Whose seen it and what's your take on it?

Seen it yesterday. Although not a cinematographic masterpiece, mind = blown

I saw it in 3D at the IMAX in Manchester last night. The IMAX in itself is an amazing experience, but it certainly suited Tron by bringing out the amazing visuals and sound.

The film itself though, I haven't made my mind up yet. I really enjoyed it, but I think I was expecting too much and I left the cinema a tad disappointed. It is enjoyable and the soundtrack is great, although I think they went over the top in the 'club scene'.

I highly recommended watch though and I'm sure I'll take to it a bit more after a second viewing.

Went to the midnight premiere @Imax LBC.
It was sheer awesomeness.
People were dressed up in Daft Punk headgear and lots of glowsticks.
Great sounds from DP.
Two thumbs up.

Awesome!! Looking forward to it now even more... but just like with any movie, i'll wait for the hype to go down and go watch it in the theatre when it's a lot less packed and i can put up my feet the chair in front of me

I feel I'm going to regret this but I'm an optimist... like I said on my Facebook status, Daft Punk has been disappointing me systematically for 10 years now - this is such a great opportunity that I want them to blow my mind away.

...

PLEASE TELL ME THEY USED NO VOCODERS!!!!

Posted by chlola on Dec-19-2010 03:51:

Lol! No Vocoders...
The club scene was totally over the top!

I agree, that club scene was sick, especially that bass on the theater, sounded awesome. I didn't watch it on 3D but I assume the IMAX experience was mind-blowing.

IMAX was surreal.
fyi-
The ending totally sets it up for Tron III.

Thanks for letting us all know

Yeah, but brushing your teeth is a surreal experience for you.

i loved the anti-gravity hallway fight scene.

effects = mind blowing
score = superb
script + overall emotion = pretty goddam awful.

i still enjoyed it though. huge daft punk fan and the score is done perfectly to fit the movie. hearing little aspects of daft punk's sound within is pretty cool. perfect producers for this movie. the effects were just mindblowing. nothing else to say. see it in IMAX 3d. i was pretty stoned when i watched it and the second they entered the grid i was pretty much spellbound for the rest of the movie.
it is inexplicably obvious though that they spent no time at all on the script and that this is the director's first time directing a movie. while some of the acting is ok (mainly michael sheen and i guess jeff bridges gets his props just cuz hes jeff bridges), i just felt like the script wasn't keeping me too interested in the actual story. really too bad, this could have been the most epic movie but the effects/score did manage to save it imo.

The 80's flashback jokes did suck balls and the hippie aspect was dumb as fuck but the music and visuals made up for it 100%.
I was stone cold sober caz I went at midnight & had to wake up early for work the next day, so I wouldn't mind going back faded just to trip on the visuals.

I looks like the only good thing about this movie was the music. I guess I'll just skip it and get the soundtrack, lol.

Posted by chlola on Dec-20-2010 02:39:

The only part that sucked balls was the script.

That's like saying the only bad part of a painting is the paint.

i thought the script was ok. yes its no masterpiece but its tron - and being a child of the 80's and the son of a computer technician i was brought up on this movie.

the new movie captures a hell of a lot of what makes tron tron. lets not forget the first one was a flop that hardly anyone saw - once again because it had a dubious script. this leads me to believe that this new one has been written this way intentionally - thus making me like it even more.

daft punk music was awesome - cameo cool

dunno about another sequel tho - at least for another 30 odd years. flynn reaches full enlightenment - fkn god by the end.

Looked cool, dialogue / story were an absolute train wreck.

I genuinely enjoyed the movie on all fronts. I wasn't expecting some sort of deep, hardcore character development with tons of exciting plot lines and twists. Come on, people, it's a fucking Disney movie where the characters are all wearing glowing suits.

Who said anything about deep plot & hardcore character development? Why can't it just the right amount? It doesn't have to be extreme on either end. It's actually usually better if it isn't.

I didn't like Avatar, but after hearing both sides of the argument, I started to think that Cameron's approach was to give the audience a visceral experience, and that thinking too much about a storyline would have taken away from that. I can respect that. Still don't like it, but I respect it. I heard people throw the opposite argument against Inception... if they're in a dream world, there should have been more wildly fantastic visual design. But Nolan didn't want to distract you from the plot.

I haven't seen Tron yet, but I don't hear anyone going nearly as wild as they did for Avatar, so I don't think Disney can use the same defense.
