Where the hell is "trance" going?
I'm always a little afraid to put this question on a forum cuz lets face it, forums are fucking brutal sometimes. But seriously, I'm interested in hearing where everyone thinks trance IS going and where they'd LIKE to see it going. I've been extremely frustrated throughout November and December because I've gotten really bored with not only that cheesy slower style that's become more mainstream, but also I've been hearing way too many ideas being repeated to death in all types of trance and progressive. I'd like to know what people think and what directions trance should start taking so that it can, once again, can have a fresh, original, and unique sound. Something to help it evolve for the best.
Thoughts, ideas, feedback?

It's obviously heading toward two different spectrums, some producers and DJs are incorporating the poppy, cheesey vocal crap (Armada). Other DJs are incorporating techno/house elements (High Contrast). And then some DJs are just combining the two.
I'd personally like to see more progressive stuff. But that sound doesn't get the casual fans jumping at shows, which is a shame.
its loseing the emotion
that new slower/techy sound is dominating it these days and alot of dj's and producers who never supported it in the past, now support it which doesnt help either
i dont want to turn this into another "i miss trance" or " trance sucks" kinda thread but it just seems that every year there seems to be some new trend that gives the genre a bad name
first it was everyone makeing cheeeesey vocals, then the useless remakes now its everyone doing the same bullshit slow/techy sound
dont get me wrong i love trance, and there is good trance out there, but for the most part alot of dj's live sets all sound the same these days

Another one. Personally, and I'm not sure either of these would quite fit perfectly into the "trance" genre, but if trance were to go in any direction, I'd hope it'd be in one of these.

Yeah you're right. I think it might work well for a sunrise set kinda afterhours thing at a club, but in general I think you're right.
At least for me I guess, the kind of music I want to hear in a club is not the same as the kind I listen to at home.
You sound jaded. Personally, I made the transition from trance to house four years ago and my tastes haven't changed much since although the other day I dusted off some of the classics like Pulser - My Religion and System F - Spaceman. If your disenchantment with trance just started in November then I'd say it's probably just a temporary lull before you come across something good again. From my experience releases in general get a little weak in the winter before they pick up again in March and lead into the summer.
I still am waiting for a trance producer to stop doing the same [intro...build...breakdown...climax...2nd breakdown...outro]. I would LOVE to hear someone create a completely new way of arranging a trance track, like making the whole track one big build or something...i dont know, could be kinda cool and definitely stick out amongst all the cookie-cutter trance tracks out there. 2 my cents

Speaking of techno/trance I really used to love Picotto back around 2000-2002 with all his named-after-amphibian tracks. His Trance Energy 2001 set is one of my favorite ever. It's like nasty filthy techno with melodic trance breakdowns, was like the perfect combination of both.

Whats Trance?
Seriously, I find myself listening to prog house/techno 90% and maybe 10% trance. I stopped listening to ASOT a long time ago.
- Too many Trance DJs that have sets that sound the same
- Too many Trance DJs that are unwilling to incorporate tracks from other genres
...I could go on but I'll stop there.
