Resident Advisor's top track of 2010

is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MPkZiRM8-c

Can someone please:

1. Tell me I'm not the only one thinking that this must be a joke?
2. Tell me that very little production ability goes into making something like this?

If the answer's to either of those is no, I'll laugh my ass off and probably cry right after.

beatport still big up music though. there's just nothing in this. and i can understand it working on a dancefloor, once, twice...but track of the year? unless it's a case of bad music being catchy - like that rap das armas song.

mmm that bass line, reminds me of:

Have to say I agree - the last dozen or so top ten lists I've listened to from RA has just shocked me. I listened to all 4 on of the RA charts on beatport the other night and I wouldn't buy a single a track from them.

I actually like that song a lot. It's hella funky and dark. As for the production on this song, well the end result is good, so I guess I'll say the production is good for me.

#1 song? I think it's a very, very good song that's been on my playlist for some time, and that's all I'll say about it.

Coma Cat is also a good song even though it's fluffy.

Yes, seems overranked to me.. number 1?
what is there left for the bottom of the list.

It's a good song, and I'm sure those vocals fuck with you when you're high as fuck, but I wouldn't consider it my the #1 of the year. How do they pick it? To me, the obvious choice would be SHM - One, since that song got played out like crazy. But even then, it wouldn't be my #1.

One song that I played out so much this year is Aeroplane - We Can't Fly. I love that song. But I don't think I could pick just one song.

Its the same as ASOT top 20 for the year, 1/3 of the list is his tracks, the voters really have kissed his arse. Not having a go at him, I do like his music but there is loads of better stuff that aint in the list imo.
I still listen to his show but I'm finding I now always skip the first hour at least if not more to get to the tracks that I like.

Mad4B keeps telling me to stop using gay male vocals, but it seems I could be onto something eh.............

lets see you make it.

the songs main emphasis is on the vocals, just because it doesnt have an epic trance build up doesnt make it a joke.

that list has a lot of really good songs on it, but i still disagree with number one , oh well.

The thing is it's original and different and has a nice dark vibe and decent though subbtle grove. It's way better than 99% of so called 'progressive' trance tunes I hear for example where people all dish up the smae old pluck sounds.

Of course, that's true. ASOT Top 20 is a mediocre list, but this is no comparison. I'm not trying to be pretentious, or to ridicule people's tastes, but for the life of me (and believe me, I've tried), I just cannot see what is good about this track. At least with a generic, cheesy track like Dash Berlin - Waiting (for example), I can see the value in drunkenly singing along to the song, or watching really hot, ditzy girls do the same. In this particular case, how on earth is anything about this song good? It reminds me of that joke skylab track that went viral on youtube. It's musically off.

for reference, I'm talking about this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwfNwg7a1DU

Its not too bad of a track tbh, a can see how it would work in a set.
Its really groovy and would get you going when your smashed and get you lost in the track. As for being #1 well for me it wouldn't be close to that position but thats down to my taste's in music and I'm out of touch.

Posted by Beatflux on Dec-31-2010 19:27:

IT's definately got a groove to it with that 80's vibe.
