Question Any interest in remixing vocal tracks? REMIX PACKS UP!

Hey TAs - Aliciya Angel and I were considering putting together a remix pack for one of our older songs and just wanted to gauge interest, but we're not sure which song. The two that we're considering are:

No One Knows

I Believe

I'll leave this poll up for a few days, then get the remix pack together (probably Sunday evening).

UPDATE: By popular demand, I've provided remix packs for both songs, so go nuts.

NO ONE KNOWS

Please note that there are two different remix packs available. The "FULL" version includes the MIDI and audio for most of the synths/bass all of the dry vocal parts, including some of the vocal effects at the original tempo (132BPM). The "128BPM" version contains only the MIDI parts and the dry vocals for the verses, choruses, and chorus harmonies (left and right). See the README.txt file for track information and how to credit it. The Extras folder has a copy of the original track, the promo photo of Aliciya, and the lyrics. Have fun and please let me know if you have any questions or problems with the files.

No One Knows Remix Pack - FULL (~270MB)

No One Knows Remix Pack - 128BPM (~42BM)

I BELIEVE

Similar instructions for the "I Believe" remix pack, although there is only one remix pack for this one. It contains the audio and MIDI tracks for the primary synths and bass, and the dry vocal track.

I Believe Remix Pack (~226MB)

Love both, but No One Knows has the vote. Great work, cryo.

No One Knows

I've gone for I Believe.

Both tracks quality stuff though, love Aliciya's voice.

I'll go with I Believe.

Really good voice and nice production on both songs!

Love the plucked melody (well.... it sounds plucked on my crappy laptop speakers) in 'I believe'. I'd like to remix this one

*Waits for msz to do a mix on this*
Msz gonna drop a gemm...

What are you gonna do with it? This is chart material. Send it to Ultra or MOS... you never know honestly...
they might fuck with it.
And If they pick it up Shhiiiiet... you are gonna make some money.
I picture pete tong talking over this on the radio.

Wow - thanks a lot, guys! I'll have to admit that I wasn't sure if people would have much interest in remixing either song, so it's awesome to see the responses already! I can't wait to hear EZ's 12-minute remix!

Hehe - thanks an lot, man! These songs are a few years old and we actually did sorta shop them around a bit at the time, but didn't really get much interest from any labels. The plan at the time was to rework them a bit, but they just sorta got forgotten about when we moved on to new material. So, we figured why not see what other people can do with them? TA obviously has many fine producers/musicians, and it's really cool to hear what other people can do with them.

I did a similar thing with another singer/song ("Telescope" feat. Avonlea Montague) a few years ago and ended up releasing an EP of remixes by TA members. I'm not sure where this remix opportunity will go, but we figured we'd see if there was much interest in remixing one of these songs first, choose the song, and go from there.

Think of what Maor Levi did to Sirens of the Sea, that's what I can imagine myself doing to these tracks. I absolutely love her voice, wow.

I'd probably prefer working with No One Knows.

This is waaay more official than the telescope track. You would think that anybody in their right mind would sign this. What labels did you send this to and it got rejected?
Maybe you didn't shop around hard enough or just send this to the wrong people for this sort of thing.

Figure out the contact info of labels that put out this sort of music make a few cds and send them over. Follow up with a call.

Both great tracks Cryo, but no one knows, has the vocal that gets me. Would really like to work on that one. Well done on both!!

I prefer No One Knows.

I'd love to say yes but I've already failed to finish remixing TWO of your tracks so I won't waste your time again

good luck with the project though

Posted by MSZ on Jan-01-2011 14:53:

hey D

yea ill take a good attempt at them, if you dont mind can you send me both packages? also, i don't have timestretch, can you do them @ 128bpm? I noticed Eric J, Prototrance are also offering so this could be for them too.

sorry to bring this up, but could I hold onto the rights? I wont be handing it over to random people that i dont trust (stephen wiley).

I have to say, I love both tracks, but "Know One Knows" is going to be your best bet for the widest response just because it's more accessible to a wider variety of producers and it also has a killer trance hook and vibe. It's a tune I'd recommend for people who are beginners who haven't had a whole lot of experience remixing songs but that advanced people are still going to feel challenged by.

"I believe" is stunning but it's an intermediate/complex level tune that the little people (MSZ, tehlord, Richard Butler, Keysora, Eric J ) might have a harder time with.

Dude!! Get Audacity, right now! It does tempo conversions if you know the original BPM.

EDIT: I'll also echo MSZ's vote for both.

No I'm actually confused. I picked No One Knows specifically because it sounds more musically complex than I Believe, which sounded like it had more pop influences

And I was just joking, having lumped you in with a group of producers who I think are quite good. I do think "I believe" is deceptively complex and will prove difficult for some producers to pull off but I also think pretty much anyone here could pull it off if they put their mind to it.

EDIT: I don't think "Know One Knows" is easy, but it doesn't have the detours that pop song structured songs, like "I believe", can take and is therefore easier to fit into a typical remix.

Oops, I though I posted this earlier, but I think I accidentally hit Preview, rather than submit - doh!

I don't really recall which labels we sent it to, but we definitely did not shop it hard enough because signing songs to label has never really been a high priority for us.

I know you were just joking EZ, but honestly, I think that most TAs are better trance/EDM producers than I am and will undoubtedly do a great job on either song. I think my strength is mostly in composition - melodies, harmonies, etc. - but, when it comes to the technical part, I'm pretty much a generalist jack of all trades/master of none. So, I really like hearing what the guys who really know and understand their genre can do with it. And, it's very cool to hear each artist's interpretation and style applied to your own ideas.

Yeah, I'm starting to think that we could/should make both available, but probably just one at a time??? And, yes, I can definitely include the vocals timestretched to 128bpm. That said, I second EZ's recommendation for Audacity - it's free and has a great timestretching feature.

I definitely understand that and there will be no transfer of rights - we're essentially considering this just a remix opportunity simply for the fun of it and because we like hearing what other producers can do with it.

On a related note, I should mention that we're not considering this a remix contest, per se. I'm personally not a big fan of contests when it comes to music, because I don't really see music-making as a competition. That said, I know that a lot of people really like remix contests, so I would not be opposed to that, if you guys decide you want to have one. But, I would leave the selection of judges, rules, deadlines, winners, prizes, etc. up to you guys. Oh, and I'm not filthy rich like M4B, so don't expect me to pay the winner out of my own pocket!

Posted by Raphie on Jan-01-2011 20:11:

I would be interested in both, she ROCKS!

Posted by DJ RANN on Jan-01-2011 20:19:

I would love to have a crack at either of these. Dave, I must say, I hadn't heard these before and they are both quite beautiful not to mention the production which is great.
I don't know you didn't get a better response when shopping this.

They're a little "soft" for my style but that's why i want a crack at them

If you do a pack for either, any chance of the midi + audio? That would save a bunch of time.

Well he aint paid no one as far as am aware, he owes sako $250

I don't think most people on here need motivated by money to take part in this.
