Lightbulb SVCD and DivX Performance on My Computer

I try to play SVCD or DivX movies or music videos on my computer, but I get terrible performance. For SVCD, I need to convert the sound to AM Radio quality, and take off any extra things, close basically every program, make the screen size smaller aswell. I have all the right codecs and everything, but I get about 5fps when I try to play them.

For DivX, as long as I close every program, disconnect from the internet, set my background to the deafult, it will play smooth at full screen, but to do so I need to put the quality on the lowest It can go and same for the sound.

System specs are these.. Operating System: Windows XP Professional (5.1 - 2600) Memory: 248MB Cpu: 1-Intel P3 Celeron (Cu), 1069MHz, 128KB Resolution: 1024x768 32bit 60Hz Uptime: 4h 43m 38s Gfx Card: SiS 630/730

Not the best computer I know, but it should at least play small music videos smooth and good quality at a good resoultion. ... any idea why my computer is being so gay??

Do the following:

1. Make sure you update all your codecs. Audio and Video.

2. Make sure you have the most updated driver for that SiS video card.

3. What divx program are you using to view? What about SVCD?

If you've done all that, and still have trouble, the problem is your video card. Everything else is fine, as far as processor speed, RAM, etc. With a good graphics card, your videos should run smooth as glass. I recommend ATI or a GeForce.

hmm...make sure u have divx5

i had 4 before & found movies were running very choppy and skipping a lot (this is on a duron 800 )

...but after installing the latest divx, everything is fixed...runs movies at 1600x1200 @ 72mhz no problems

apart from that, only thing i can think of right now is a fragged hard-drive...try a defrag & see if that fixes ur problem too

...just as a check...open ur task manager with out a movie playing & see how much system idle process u have spare...then check the same when ur playing a movie & check how much cpu% the movie player software is using

When playing your SVCD's be sure to use either of these programs: WinDVD or PowerDVD.

i had divx problems before too, just grab the latest bundle at www.divx.com and if it doesn't play in your regular media player then play it in the divx player that comes with it... haven't had a problem since...

update everything.
i use Elecard MPEG2 player plays SVCDs and DivX stuff like that
Winamp 3 beta and RC play divx and stuff(which is pretty damn cool) it works well on my comp although i tried watching ayu-m(a&b remix) and it was all skipping so i just used elecard and it worked fine

hope you get it working

i know well mine atleast supports openGL and direct3D..but it's sooo shitty. ive had DivX run smoother on my 486 before...i dunno why this does it. i'm guessing it's XP, my Celeron (ugh) and SiS video card.

the system should able to run divX's comfortably, stick an Nvidia card in it i suggest

it's the SiS card, 630 is not far away from 530 (which I have) and i've heard it was one of the worst cards there are (and i myself could say the same)
