Somewhat OT: iPad, soundcloud player, and TA - no workie
I bought my wife an iPad the other day and I'm trying to view the soundcloud player embedded in TA threads, but it's not working - just showing a blank space. I can view and listen to the player on the soundcloud website just fine, but not when it's embedded here on TA. Any suggestions? FWIW I've already installed the soundcloud app.
Oh, and no I haven't been assimilated by Steve Jobs, nor do I plan to be. But, the iPad is very cool and addictive.
Hah, this reminds whe Homer forgets Marges birthday, and he finds a bowling ball and buy it for her. BTW I got the same problem, I dont see the embembed sc, when I am browsing. Might be the Java issue, dunno..
The soundcloud player app do work.

the embedded player format is flash only at the moment.
The lack of flash on the iOS devices has its pros and cons. In your case, it's very annoying I know. But many web designers don't believe me when I tell them that adobe's monopoly isn't a good thing either. Flash is for me a very pricey piece of crap, especially on the mac, very unstable, and very unsafe too, and I wish there was something else on the market to compete with it.

flash sucks, dont worry about it. if ipad had flash you could forget about those 10 hours battery.
I don't get it. Flash even runs properly on my 2.5 year old nokia. I can do youtube, soundcloud no prob. If flash really would have been a a big deal they would have banned it from their pc's too.
It's relatively light on the cpu if you would compare it to HTML5 for instance.
The only reason Apple don't allow Flash is so they can ram their own version down peoples throats. So you would be moving from one monopoly to another. I have no issues with flash on modern machines, it works fine.
i think the problem is that flash accumulate memory usage. im not sure about this though but it seems that u have to close your browser after a while because everything u watched seems to cache somewhere. try to play the online game happy wheels, it has a memory meter on top and it just keeps rising and rising and after a while the fan on my laptop starts and then again after a while battery is out.

| Originally posted by Lolo you're entirely right, but let's admit that flash is a battery killer, and for mobile devices forget about it. That's the main culprit. |
For what it's worth I have a Droid 2 and can't seem to play anything in Soundcloud. I have the newest version of Flash installed but I can't seem to actually play anything from that site. Maybe the embedded flash is just formatted in some way where most portable devices can't run it? Hell if I know.
OK, so we have htc phone with latest Droid 2.2 version loaded on it and our provider is sprint - the deal is if you are on the sprint 3G network we can see SC site and all of our tracks but we can not play it but from the moment we switch to home wifi we can play any tracks on SC so either this is because of system recognize different speed/provider connection and internal processes in flash are not working properly or is taking a long time to fully load this SC site and I never have time to wait so long (longest was 5 min I was waiting) - it is really interesting issue, so I can suggest that if you want to listen to SC track go to Starbucks and use there WiFI free connection.
Cheers,
Darek

Gotta love the fanboys in here spreading the most ridiculous FUD about flash in order to compensate for their butthurt over not being able to run it.
About the only claim that's even remotely true is that it drains the battery, but then again, so does just about every other video or graphics-intensive app. It's laughably hypocritical when somebody who plays games on their iPhone/iPad all day whines about the supposed battery-draining characteristics of Flash.
I've honestly got nothing against the iPad, but let's be realistic here: Apple hasn't refused to support Flash because there's anything wrong with Flash. Apple has refused to support Flash because Flash can be (and is) used to develop actual applications, and its presence on iOS would threaten their total control over the developer community. We shouldn't fault them for this either; if I were Steve Jobs, I'd also want to retain the vendor lock-in I'd worked for nearly a decade to build up.
Bottom line is that the vast majority of streaming media on the web is based on Flash, and iOS products don't and never will support it. You'll only be able to use those sites if the developers decide to switch over to HTML 5 video, which arguably they should do because it's actually a standard, but it's just going to take a few more years before the mobile market is important enough to get it adopted universally.
